Rangers signed Goodrow to a 6 year deal. If the AAV is around the reported 3.5 that is a big contract for his on ice production. - burgh4life87
Sounds similar to some other contract of some guy , can’t quite put my finger on who? |

Goodrow I'd say is better defensively than Tanev, but yeah, pretty much as equal of an overpayment for a guy who runs around and hits people.

Nedeljkovic would have been the perfect kind of pickup for the Pens and that was both a cheap acquisition and signing cost for a goalie coming off a really good year. Wonder what their actual plan in net is? I can't imagine it is Bernier. |

Well we got a cautious GM and most people want to spend a lot of money in UFA. Everything should line up. |

Since McCann is a 3rd liner and Tanev's ceiling is a 3rd liner (and an overpaid 4th liner that we just choose to use as a luxury on the 4th line) then we got 6.5 million in cap to find 2 guys with 3rd line effectiveness
Would it be a 5 million dollar player with Top 6 upside and an ELC player? both with pants in the long-ish variety?
Could we free up the Petts cap hit and add it to the 6.5 Million and be a player for a bonafide Top 6 player and move Zuck down to the 3rd line to play with Carter and ELC player? Replace Petts with a FA or an ELC like POJ?
Hopefully some of the $$ can provide an upgrade in goal. Not just adding a 3.5 Millionish backup to Jarry. Jarry moves out and we go with a new #1 with a salary in the 5-6 Million range to pair with DeSmith
Trade Petts, have 10.5 Million in Cap. Use 2 to replace Petts, 1.5-2 to upgrade Jarry, an ELC guy and a 5-6 Million player (Saad?) to play in the Top 6. Zucker goes to the 3rd line with Carter.
Out - 14 Million
McCann 3.0
Tanev 3.5
Petts 4.0
Jarry 3.5
In - 13.5 Million
Saad (5.5)
ELC (1.0)
Free Agent D (2.0)
Goalie (5.5)
Jake Sid Rust
Saad Geno Kap
Zucker Carter ELC
ZAR Blueger Gaudreau
Dumo Letang
POJ Marino
FA Matheson
Good Goalie
DeSmith - TheGame316
Even if you get players to sign at your exact numbers, you're still over the cap because all you did was look at capfriendly and didn't factor in ZAR and POJ's salaries. Or even Gaudreau. |

Also even if you're super bullish on Hallander being an NHLer next year, which you shouldn't be, I'm pretty sure he's a LW. We don't have a top 9 quality RW ELC in the pipeline.
Happy to allow competition with Gaudreau for that last 4th line spot, and if they over preform and earn their way up the lineup, then great! But it would be extremely foolish to leave a top 9 spot wide open. |

Then put Gaudreau back on Carter’s wing and use the ELC guy on the 4th
The hope is the ELC guy isn’t just some grinder plug for the 4th, It’s that it’s a guy who can score so start him somewhere with players that can make him successful (Carter/Zucker)
As far as the money goes, spend a little less on the FA Dman or the goalie, or maybe give Saad or whoever an extra year for a lower cap hit

The alternative is keeping Zucker in the top 6 and finding 2 guys with 6 million who’ll play 3rd line exclusively
I’d like to upgrade the top 6 and drop Zucker down to play with Carter in an ideal situation

Angelo, Bjorkvist, Lafferty. That’s it. I honestly didn’t mind Angelo. I’d be curious to see how bjorky does. That’s it. Maybe bellerive playing his off hand. He is reported to be a pretty quick and feisty player. |

With SJ's cap disaster they are probably just asking for picks and prospects in return. Not sure Hextall would be into that, even though he damn well should be. |

Poulin, Legare. No potential?
No other guy in Wilkes Barrie (or slew of guys) that can compete?
No chance Hex can acquire a guy via trade? |

If we're all being honest with ourselves, Jordy Bellerive probably has the biggest chance of coming out of training camp and sniffing third line production. It's not the known mediocre quantities, it's not the guy who had an underwhelming NCAA career Bjorkvist, it's definitely not gonna be the two guys that underwhelmed in the 21 year old season in the Q like everyone wants it to be, and it's probably not the guy that did OK in the SHL coming to NA ice for the first time. So our biggest hope is a guy who's career has been completely derailed by a fire but at least has done OK in the AHL. |

I have absolutely zero faith Poulin and Legare will sniff an NHL call up this coming season. Maybe they eventually turn into something, but two guys that underwhelmed in the (frank)ing Q as 21 year olds should be seen as nothing more as lotto tickets. Hallander has a much better shot than those two and he hasn't even played on NA ice yet.
The only guy in the AHL that we have right now that has a pinch of top 9 potential is Bellerive.
Sure, Hextall can trade for someone, but I didn't think we were talking about that. Thought we were just talking about going with what we had and leaving a 3rd line spot open. |

Well they only turned 20 a few months ago but throw em to the wolves. Who ever looks best in training camp gets first call. If he sucks then try the next one.
Don’t know if pustinnen is coming to America this year but that’s about the only other option as it stands. One of them should be able to hack a 4th line role. Let gadreau stay on the 3rd. Money goes to more prime upgrades if they even do that. |

If we can upgrade the Top 6 wing with a guy like Saad and upgrade the Goalie position, and Zucker drops to the 3rd line to play with Carter I don’t think 3rd line RW will make or break our Cup chances. We also have 82 games and the TDL to figure it out if we can lock down the other moves and pieces

I am hoping the Pens can pull off a Pettersson for Greenway trade with Minnesota. He would fit the bill for what the Pens need in the top 9 and Minnesota has two LD's to replace. |

I mean the Penguins have been kind of a test case of how one incompetent player can make an entire line or pairing completely ineffective for the past like 10 years. See Sutter, Brandon and Johnson, Jack. Third line is kind of important. You can't have a non-NHL caliber player and expect things to be fine because Zucker and 50 year old Jeff Carter are the line mates. |

You're around 3M over the cap with your roster.
And that's if you get good UFA goalie to sign here for 5.5M whose identity I would love to know. |

That would be a nice win. Greenway would make Burke happy and give us some cap freedom. I'm not a huge fan of him, but I think he could do well here. |

I get to 80.25 with Saad at 5 million and a 2m FA Dman. 18 skaters and 2 goalies. Work some WBS magic to send guys down to shave the daily cap charge, Malkins LTIR gets you through any cap trouble through the first half of the season. Regular IR which is practically a guaranteed can bank some more daily cap as well
