I hate the AAV if it's what has been mentioned, but I think we are going to love him.

On the bright side, there's now one more team in the NHL he can be traded to if he doesn't live up to the deal. |

If he can be our answer to Tom Wilson and NYI 4th line, I'll live with the AAV.

I hope you're all right about him. I don't dislike the player at all, just the terms of his deal. I will obviously be pulling for him. |

Man I hope this is not a sign of things to come. This has Sather written all over it. Trade away assets (even small ones) to acquire a free agent and overpay both in term and dollars and hand out a NTC. Ouch
Couldn't retain the 5x player's player in Fast but we can go full send on Goodrow?
Let me guess, we trade Kakko, Buch, Chytil, and Miller for Eichel next? |

I mean we've ragged on Sather (for some legitimate reasons too), lets not forget our most successful time as a franchise since winning the cup came with him under the helm. There were several notable whiffs through his tenure, but he also hit home runs too.
I hate the AAV, I just don't think that anyone can give the shocked pikachu face that after we get manhandled by our most bitter historic rival, we try to go get someone as a counter to that. Again I hate the AAV, but something had to be done.
There really isn't any excuses for this team anymore not to compete, we have the best LW in the game, the reigning Norris trophy winner, and a goalie who people think could win a Vezina one day. I don't think we can use rebuilding as an excuse anymore.

Sather couldn't adapt to the Cap era. That is my biggest concern with this deal. Goodrow is a good addition as a player, but negotiations are a give and take. If the team gets AAV, the player gets Term. If the player gets AAV the team gets a better term. In this case the player got a higher than expected AAV, much longer term than his player type warrants, and a NTC on top of it. Goodrow's agent won all 3. This isn't Panarin on the open market.

I came aware just prior to last night's Exp. Draft show's airing, & posted it two blogs earlier ("Mock Draft - Vegas Pick In,...") last night, my reasons again, along with an article's link out of Buffalo shortly later, as to the latest just updated injury information then, plus the surgeries/post treatments available,+ regarding Eichel's neck injury sustained when checked causing his head to hit the glass hard during a March 7th road game against the Isles; his final game played in last season.
To sum it up best:
BUYER, i.e., DRURY & RANGERS BEWARE X 50,000,000 including Eichel $$$!
https://buffalonews.com/n...eb-adf7-938de5ef7445.html
On even earlier blogs, I made my case (also starting just Cap & NMC wise in 22/23) for not trading excessively high for the UNCERTAINTY with Eichel's injury, (which the Sabres won't release details of to any teams).
Eichel scored 36 goals in the roughly 10 games + shortened 1st Pandemic season. In the 2nd one (56 games), Eichel played in only 21 games scoring just 2 goals, and tallied 16 assists, along with a +/- Rating of (-9). His last NHL goal scored came against the Rangers in that 3-2 overtime loss on Jan. 28th, in which LAF. scored the OT winner for his first NHL goal.
As per of key, those non Eichel like goals numbers of last season, one also has to wonder if he may have had some nagging problem with his neck even prior to sustaining his March 7th injury. |

People say this: Rangers missed the playoffs once under his tenure as GM in the cap era. That one time was because we lost a shootout. We can say Sather doesn't do well in the cap era, but until recently the Rangers had done about as well as any other franchise had sans the cups.
In terms of you comments on Goodrow, I generally agree it was a bad negotiation. My position isn't that his money will be worth it, but at the same time something has to be done to compete with the big style of play the successful teams in our division have started to employ successfully against us. We played well against Washington this year, but we've had trouble with them, NYI, and Boston partly due to the physical nature all those teams have implemented. Lets face it, Tampa didn't win the cup until they started employing guys like Goodrow and Patrick maroon. They got those guys at a better price, but they needed someone to compete with how Boston and Columbus was playing them in the postseason.

I am not happy with the term or AAV on Goodrows contract. Howver, I realize that you can't look at just this single move in a vacuum. Lets see what other deals Drury makes before we pass judgement. There is certainly more moves coming... |

The login to that Buffalo article worked for me by even just clicking on it in your own reply to my comment.
The actual lengthier web address I entered to read it gets shortened by the hockey buzz system to what showed up there.

I can live with the Goodrow deal so long as this is not a precursor to making reactionary "McIlrath type" decisions in pursuit of toughness or reverting back to signing overpriced UFAs whose best days are behind them.
