I hope you are kidding? This management group is hopeless
- Old Flopper

I think the management group is arrogant. I wish I was kidding.

I think that the Heiskenan signing the other day for approx $8.5 MM AAV for the next 8 years really sets the high bar for a top-notch mobile offensive Dman. I don't think Chevy would have to pay more than that for pretty much anybody including Hamilton . The Jets can creatively afford that price IMHO and I'd take Heiskanen over Hamilton any day. Let's just something done.

As for Risto . I stated in the last thread my reasons ( and now Ates ) for liking him for a trade . If we can get him at the right price the one year left on his term is actually a plus because in another year I fully expect both Heinola and Stanley will be full-time Dmen on the Jets. Offence, PP, physicality for the playoffs, and can log big ice time. Put him with the right partner and it could be a cheap gamble.

I’m with you on Risto at a good price.

Jets would have to go 7 x $8-$9 I think for Hamilton to consider Winnipeg

Not impossible but maybe not worth it either (see San Jose with 3 nasty contracts on D)

Would rather land Risto for a 3rd and a decent prospect and the 3rd becomes a 2nd if he signs

Rumours are swirling that Derek Forbort is about to be extended. Awww yea, Chevy is bringing this D group back for another go around next year!
- TheUltimateJet

Did the Jets hire the best skating coach on the planet? Let's hope so if Forbort is being extended.. Lol

I really do expect the Jets to re-sign Forbort.

However, if they do, hopefully it's for the 4th pairing. Hopefully the LD is set with JoMo, Stanley and Heinola (barring any trades).

this is the problem, Heinola is ten times better yet Maurice will have Forbot ahead of him on his depth chart

Forbot is a serviceable defenseman with experience and cheap on cap. He's a guy that puts himself at risk four or five times a game in his shot-blocking abilities which elevates the bench. He has experience . Slowness is his worst asset.

Heinola has a very small sample size to judge from and was not without a few gaffes during his time on the Jets. He will obviosuly be a mainstay on the blueline as we move forward and does need to start getting regular shifts in the same way that Stanley evolved. However, to say Heinola is 10 x better at this stage is a gross misstatement. I'd say at this stage Heinola would be an improvement on the blueline to Forbot and the rest remains to be seen. Getting a little carried away there Ross with Rexy-type exaggerations. Please don't lower yourself to that level.

Heinola a year older, more experienced, stronger - this had better not happen. I think it's "Heinola time!"

Hopefully Ville is training hard this summer, comes into camp in prim,e condition, and after the exhibition games, forces his way into the starting line-up. Then it's up to him. But Maurice needs to take the shackles off the d!

Still think there's deal coming down tonight - Buffalo?

not sure if the deal will go through with Buffalo, i sincerely hope not. i had just heard ( prior to all the insiders id like to point out lol ) that the Jets were having very serious and constant talks prior to the trade freeze. BUT!!! if Buffalo is holding to their ask of a first and prospect, i'm super happy Chevy hasn't budged.

Darren Dreiger also reported the Jets and others have asked about Dillan in WSH and Drieger also added Savard has said he'd be more than willing to sign in Canada when free agency hits. I assume Montreal and Toronto would also be in on Savard but if him and PLD are in fact tight maybe we have a chance on him? i think Savard is a bit over rated and would be asked to do too much here but he is absolutely better than Risto.

am i exaggerating probably but the gap is bigger than you think. the problem when we play young kids is any mistake they make is highlighted where with forbort they are just expected.

i know some on here disagree with this but the reason he blocks so many shots is because how slow he is and how poor he is at getting the puck out of our zone. the jets need to play heinola and play him a lot!! Maurice will look high and low for any excuse to play forbort and beaulieux more than heinola and i'm done with it

Maurice's biggest weakness is he loves D that play like he did....slow, brutal, but with a lot of heart and grit

Some name I like tonight:

RW Boucher
C L’Heureaux
LHD Lambos
C Bolduc
C Stankhoven

Out of left field pick: G Sebastian Cossa

We don’t have much in the goalie pipeline and 3 years left of Hellybuck

We aren’t in a great position for a Dman tonight.

Hope somebody texts Chevy that the draft is tonight

I think the Jets trade down and take O. Olausson - RW with their first pick whenever that is.

If they don't trade down, can see - if available:
1 - Othmann
2. Dean
3. Boucher
4. Pastujov
5. Rosen

Long-shot, like someone one said - Cossa - if the Oilers don't pick him.

But I think they trade down and get extra pick in either round one or two. Could we be looking at a HUGE trade? Probably not, but you never know. We desperately need an upgrade on D as everyone knows. Do we fix it now?

Wait what Enstrom in 43 games in last somewhat underwhelming season was the best in the league at anything? I remember in the playoffs when he couldn’t handle the physicality. Pedestrian year and no other team in the NHL showed any interest.

Can’t believe I got hooked again by this lol. Dano I’ll let go of

- jjonah

Okay, now you’re just being a tool. Enstrom-Byfuglien in 17-18 was one of the best pairings the NHL has seen since the last lockout. Utterly incredible season by both, and Enstrom’s defence was the strongest aspect of it.

Enstrom also had multiple offers, and chose to play at home. This was widely reported at the time.

Wonder if it is Risto, if Reinhart or Olofsson might be part of a package deal that included Copp going the other way?

Dillon would give is some much needed toughness, and UFA Savrd wouldn't cost us any players, and would be a plus.

The Jets just missed the playoffs for the second year in a row and were drafting 13th, that's not a cup window, that's a sell everyone over the age of 30 and keep building team.
- BWJumper

They bet on their young talent then, and wisely so. I’m fairly certain everyone and their dog knew another step forward for the younglings was coming
