Bert trade talk is heating up! Stevie's price is a prospect and a 1st! Or a grade A prospect and a 2nd.....

Am really not in the camp of trading Bert. He's got the guts and grit that we just don't have. His energy level is off the charts; he changes the dynamic of a game when he's on the ice. He's getting older and has some miles on him, though so this may make sense.
If he can get a stud C prospect and higher draft pick, I could buy off on it.
When we talk trades, I really have to look at what's going on with the return. Like w/Matha...we got back Vrana, but he's still not signed. If we don't sign him, we traded Mantha for nothing of value. ANYONE we get has to have 2 things, in my mind:
1. Longevity. Whoever comes to us needs to be around for a while. We're still not ready to compete and are rebuilding. If it takes another 3-5 years, whomever comes back should be here for at least that long, whether in the original contract or via extension. They need to be a building-block for the continuing rebuild (this is the MOST important factor, to me)
2. Adds value. Getting Nielsen for Bert will make me throw up in my mouth....a LOT. I know that The Captain isn't going to take someone who doesn't add value, BUT.... And value doesn't necessarily mean longevity. They can be someone who's flipped at the TDL and recoup several solid draft choices or stronger prospects.
The reality with Bert is that he's had back surgery, is 29, and will be in decline in the next 4 years or so. BUT he's a good mentor, so there's some balance there, if you ask me....which you didn't, but I'm offering anyway
All things considered, I'd hold him a bit longer, let him work with Ras, Smith, and Svech. Teach them to be a gritty little (frank) just like he is!!!
