Wow. I dont like this trade. And it seems nobody likes this trade. I wonder if he wanted a 2 year deal to be a UFA at 26 or 27 and the Canes wanted long term. Either way this is puzzling. - poisondhearts37
I'd take him for 2 years and let him walk before I'd accept a 3rd
Heck, even if they had him signed for 3.5, I'd have to think he'd have more value than that
Drafted in the 2nd round, Developed better then expected, traded for a 3rd over a perfectly reasonable bridge deal
It's not like he was commanding 8 year 64 Million or he was threatening to go back to Russia |

Alex Nedeljkovic is a goaltender with 30~ NHL games under his belt.
In his 150+ AHL starts, he was okay at best.
In his ECHL stint he was even worse.
He's 25 years old and he cleared waivers 6 months ago. Do you want to bet on him being an NHL caliber goaltender? Because who knows if he is or not at this point? too small a sample to tell and he's not exactly a young prospect at this point. |

Right, but is he not worth 2 years @ 3 mil/per? |

Shouldn't Ned at least be afforded the chance to prove he's the real deal? But he's no longer a Hurricane so he sucks now, right? This will look even worse if Bernier doesn't sign with Carolina. He's not taking a lowball offer from Dimestore Donny. Bernier was making 3 mil. He'll at least want Thomas Greiss money at 3.6 mil. Likely 4. |

My guess is that they have a big name goalie in mind like Gibson but I don't know.
Personally I would have given Ned a shot, especially at the deal he signed in DET.
I think they traded him to Detroit to try and do right by him and give him a chance because they weren't giving it to him in Raleigh. From interviews, it doesn't sound like Bernier is really what they're focusing on here. |

Me too. I think they're seeing this as an opportunity to start fresh in net and get some stability in there for the first time in years |

I was not sold on Ned at all. With a very small sample size and only one brief stint of consistent play, I can see why he was not signed. I'm sure RB was consulted along with the DW and Dundon, and the decision was made Ned is not our future guy. My concerns are is his small size, wanting to being the #1 and contract ask. Paying him 3.5M or upwards is a risky proposition in today's NHL. The position needs consistency and I'm not sold that Ned proved that.
As a side note: his confidence and self-belief in himself was suspect and off-putting to me in interviews at times. Maybe better to have waited with a better resume to do so, than make comments like "I feel I can dominate in this league". Andrei Vasilevskiy thought and proved differently. |

Mrazek has the exact same attitude. This sounds like selective justification. Player isn't on my team anymore so he sucks. |

No, not selective justification. Never said he sucks, just not a fan. I wish him the best in Detroit and hope he plays well and lives up to TSN's moniker of emerging star. Time will tell.
Not a Mrazek fan either, and hoping for an upgrade in net. |

From Lebrun...
Carolina in discussions with both Jonathan Bernier and Petr Mrazek, hoping to get both UFA goalies signed. Not clear yet if they'll be able to pull it off or not.
Meanwhile, James Reimer (also UFA) is expected to go to market Wednesday where I think he'll have some solid options. |

Local newspaper and radio personalities Luke Decock and Alec Campbell who cover the team say that Rod Brindamour has unwavering belief in Mrazek.
I think Mrazek and whoever will tandem with him competently and peacefully will be our destiny for awhile. |

Canes could do worse. They're still a very good team. I just think Gibson would've vaulted them from Cup contender to Cup favourite. |

It will be interesting to see if Ned can take the starting job in net from Greiss. Will be fun to watch. I've actually like Greiss more than Bernier... but for some reason this past season the Wings could not ever score goals when Greiss was in net. Now by adding Cossa I think the Wings will be fine in goal. |
