getting word that BUF really wanted Blais and the Blues 2022 2nd round pick for in the trade for Eichel. EK8 - picklerick
Blais was that missing key piece |

Much more to come from NYR .
Goodrow....a bit too much in $$/Term....getting him is needed and cost wont hurt us.
Buch for BLais/2nd rounder. expected return for a RFA w/arb. rights and not going to be resigned.
Drury will be judged on what shows up on the ice on opening night, and more importantly as the season progresses.
All will be well....All will be well

well yea, we can't be done and will obviously have to judge the complete picture once it's done but that is an underwhelming return for a breakout player who put up almost a ppg while playing on PP and PK |

I get Buch stats, and that he's become a good player, but why would NYR recieve anything more then they did? NYR was never going to give him a 5-5.5mill/5yr. contract |
|

One of my bandmates is a Blues fan. He's reasonably high on Blais. Said he plays tough, digging minutes. Bumped up into the top 9 at times. As TPC said, he doesn't take penalties.
...all this aside, I still don't like it overall. Just hoping we will change our minds a little in the future. - Tonybere
You trade a third or fourth round pick for him, not Pavel Buchnevich, even if you need to clear cap room or a top six spot. Kakko and Kravtsov now have no safety net on the right side |

Then you move him for a requisite return |

My one question to the NYRs would be Did you try to move Buch at deadline? If not, why? If so, what did you turn down? |

What the F did we just do?
How the hell did we go from Horvat for Buch and disagreeing on the extras to Blais and a 2nd? |

Unless teams knew we weren’t going to resign him and took advantage of that. Cap space is extremely valuable and I think we are seeing that much more so this off-season. |

You'd have to ask JD and Gorton. Drury gets a pass on this imo. It wasn't his call then. |

My biggest problem with this trade is that it didn't upgrade our biggest need for our roster: 2nd Line Center
Goodrow is an upgrade over Howden
Blais is an upgrade over DiGuiseppe
Where is the upgrade over Strome???
Buch and our 1st Round pick tonite represented our most marketable assets and IMO should have been used on a CENTER! To think, just the other day we were looking at Horvat as a possibility.
I am very underwhelmed... |

Definitely not a better team right now tougher to play against sure but not better have too see how tonight and rest of off-season plays out before we jump to conclusions. |

So… Strome isnt amazing by any means. He definitely has his flaws but hes not a total knucklehead. I can live with him as the 2C with Goodrow on the line. Where Im concerned is Chytil… 3C and 4C. I think Barron will be good. However 3C and Chytil needs fixing. |

You know how I’d take Eichel? 3 million salary retained from BUF.
Nils Jones 15 OA Kravtsov 2022 1st. I’d take the risk for them to retain 3 million. - nyrangers9479
With all due respect……that’s nuts.
It would be nuts if Eichel was 100% healthy.
To throw 4 first round picks plus Jones is nuts bordering on insanity. |

Four 1st rounders is what you pay for someone like McDavid. Eichel healthy is definitely an awesome talent, but not McDavid level. |

Why is everybody female doging? You've been complaining all week for something to happen, now something does and you cry about it. Grow the (frank) up! - TheMessiah94
Exactly! The Tom Wilson incident ending Panarin's season; the Martin hit ending Drury's season in I believe, that 6-1 loss to the Isles that Jimbo mentioned which ended their postseason hopes before their next matchup where Clutterbuck ended Lindgren's season; all in combination was the final straw for these fans demanding toughness here for next season.
But that's what also in part forced Dolan to make the management changes deemed questionable, and in turn get Drury to act; whereby while watching the semifinals of the postseason from the outside, Drury mentioned of seeing "the physicality, the energy, the effort, & the intensity of the teams left in the playoffs"; adding further, "we want harder players to play against." So he initially brings in Gallant coaching that hard, tough, north to south style of play; and then first delivers by bringing in Goodrow ahead of free agency for a low exchange sent to Tampa for sole first rights to sign him. But fans are still upset with his contract, thinking his multi roles game would only be worth Donald Brashear, John Scott, or Tanner Glass type money.
I don't like the value in return received for a top 6 player in Buch, even if it also added here some toughness. But the facts of needing cap room after next season for Fox and others, along with Buch being a current F.A., could have driven his price down, due to teams worried they couldn't sign him. However, the breaker for me would be the SLIGHTEST of an overpayment to acquire Eichel, and see him not take the ice for at least 6 months, after needing to undergo neck surgery that very few pro athletes of major contact sports ever recovered from 100%, if ever returning to action again. |

Then where does Chytil play? Are we trading him eventually? Is someone ending up on their off wing? |

Carey Price had knee surgery today, and could miss a month or so of the season. |
