I said a month ago that I'd pick Johnson at 6 as I assumed Eklund would be gone. Then hope Cossa is still around at 23.
Johnson went early leaving Eklund in our lap, but we make a huge mistake. Adding Cossa takes my grade to a B.
Remember all the people saying Yzerman would go off the board in some crazy way to find some gem. Wrong. He mostly stuck to script picking both players not far from most projections. Same with Seider. He went #6 while most drafts had him going between 10-15. But people act like he was some random guy from parts unknown. |

I remember a little while back edvinsson was considered a big risk/reward type player so it remains to be seen what happens. That said Stevie Y is still one of the best GM’s in the league so you hope that he can put him in a position to realize his full potential. Only 5 years from now will we know if this is a Hedman pick or a koekoek pick.
Also I can’t believe that amount of GM’s that played it safe in the 1st round. You look at the Birthdays of a lot of these guys and most of them are on the older end, which means while they’re also more proven they are also more developed. You could see a lot of late round picks develop into really good players just because they were too young to get a chance to showcase themselves at the junior level in a covid year. |

I would have liked Svechkov or a center with the other 1st rounder but i can live with Cossa. I knew he was a possibility with the other pick. I am a bit surprised that Cossa went before Wallstedt. - dcz28
A very surprising draft after #2. I’m honestly surprised Cossa was our 2d. When I posted above, I’d missed the trade UP to 15. So when I heard Cossa, I figured it was at 22. I was truly thinking that The Captain would go for a Centerman. And THAT’S because all you guys convinced me not to take a G in the 1st. On that, Kevin Weekes was hot on Cossa and Walstedt in the 1st. Not surprising considering his background. Stevie’s post round interview was telling seemed he’d already planned on a G for the 2d pick, reading between the lines.
Am hoping the gem-hunters work their magic in the 2d and snag a promising C. This will go down as an odd draft with more surprises than expected. Columbus really made out, but U of M is a smoking hot program. What I was disappointed in was the commenters failed to mention the influence that Red Berensen had on the program. He really put Michigan hockey on the map and deserves credit for making the program as potent as it is. Some amazing talent there, fully expect a Frozen 4 appearance for the next few years. Next year, they’ll be a powerhouse (see what I did there?!?!?). |

Those were my first two picks that I predicted, the rest of my selection are out the window due to the trades. I will take those two players plus Leddy and Ned. Great start Stevie. - Goalie Dad
I think it’s been a good few days. The picks will play out as they will. Interested to see how Cossa pans out. Buccigros & team were positive about the moves Detroit made this week. |

Can't wait to see some of these future Red Wings play in GR. Raymond will hopefully be in GR this season. I do wonder if they'll put Seider in GR for a short stint before playing in Detroit.
I have no issue at all with picking Cossa at #15. But I really wanted a stud center to get picked more than anything else. Interesting they chose Cossa over Wallstadt. Stevie will have to find a way to get some serious talent up the middle or this team will not ever be a legit playoff team.
So thankful that Holland is no longer in charge. I see that poop show he's running in Edmonton and I'm glad he's gone. That trade he made with Chicago for Duncan Keith... insanity. |

There are still a few centers for the 2nd round but some could be gone by the time the Wings pick. Pinelli, Colton Dach, Tristan Broz and Raty are some centers still left on the board with Pinelli and Raty ranked to go in the 1st round.
I do want a center but i also would like Aleksei Heimosalmi (defenseman) that likely won't be there in the 3rd round. Olen Zellwegger and Sean Behrens are both smaller defenseman that i also like. With the Wings down to only their own 2nd round pick, that narrows the options they have for the 2nd round. |

Yeah, picking to fill needs rather than picking BPA is boring and a little depressing. I really felt he should have taken Eklund. |

For some reason Eklund’s stock drop a bit as MacTavish climbed? Other rumors out there is that Edvinsson is a favorite of the ex captain Lindstrom. He appears to have watched him in Sweden. |

Yes but we kept the highest of the second round picks. That is weaponizing draft capital. He only traded the picks acquired in trades. |

I'm a little disappointed with the Wings first two picks. I was hoping we could have gotten a center at #6. But with McTavish going at #3 and Johnson at #5. It was Edvinsson or Eklund as the next two best players available imo. No offense to Clarke lol. Really surprised they traded up for Cossa. I hope both players the Wings picked pan out. I trust in Stevie. I'm assuming Stevie knows we'll be picking again in the top 10 if not in the lottery running next season and the season after that. 2022 draft should be a dandy with Shane Wright leading the way. And Connor Bedard the consensus #1 in 2023. But I think the next two drafts as a whole a lot of centermen will be available. Looking way ahead here sorry. |
