know i know, but responding to idiots who have ruined their own credibility just keeps them from ever understanding that they're idiots who have ruined their own credibility. it keeps them believing that their opinions are relevant.

To be honest, I can’t tell who your calling an idiot. but I believe in open free dialogue no restrictions so I’m cool with it.

So a hired PR statement proves he is rehabilitated and remorseful?

Never said that…..but it’s a start…. He needs guidance!! He needs to be surrounded by good people.

See here’s where we disagree, The pick from a hockey perspective and from a business end is a fantastic pick. Can’t argue that the kid is a stud. When I say stud I mean he has tremendous upside. Just makes sense for the Habs to take him.
- Mr.FunFacts

That is some Nechayev "ends justifies the means" or Gecko "greet is good" mentality.

And I just see that as lacking any sense of moral code.

That simple.

Even so having sex at a young age leads to consequences. She played with fire, slept with the wrong guy you may say. Regardless she must take some sort of accountability. She put herself in this situation.

Classic victim blaming.

Bullpoop take, yet again.

I am thinking the Habs won’t sign
the guy. Cancel culture is too strong on this one. Wasted a first round
pick..

speaking out harshly the day after doesn't mean it will impact revenues once the season resume. they're in the storm, deservedly so. pretty sure they expected it.
anyone cancelled their season tickets? any companies let them down like some did with Tiger or others?
not yet, not to my knowledge. until that happens you are assuming.

- fidopro

This stuff doesn’t effect revenues. Look how many bad dudes play in the nfl but people still sit down and watch for 9 hours straight on Sunday. I don’t think people are going to burn their hab jerseys because they drafted a kid who did a stupid thing when he was 17.

I think so too. take a deep breath, let the storm pass.
not a wise move by the Habs, but they'll assume it.

So Montreal should have abided by the kids wish and not select him. Let him spend the year in London out of the spot light and rehabilitate his image and show he is doing the right things to rectify his character issues. Then let him enter the draft next year. But no; MB and the Habs had to act like they know better and now the spot light is even greater on the kid.

You're probably right on all counts but it does lay bare MB's hypocrisy and the emptiness of the whole CHaracter thing

Because you're trying to justify your victim blaming. I was with a few girls before we were 18 and if the situation that took place took place it would be completely my fault. I'm not going to blame the girl for taking part in a consensual act that I chose to make pictures/video of without her consent and then shared without her consent.

The girl did nothing wrong and any other take is a bad take and my guess is because it makes it easier for you as a fan to justify the pick. The girl did nothing wrong

- Takemedrunkimhome

But you don’t address what my problem is with her. It’s simple, sex is not for kids period. In my opinion 16 17 year olds having sex is dangerous. These are the things that come with sex. Defamation, Pregnancy’s, disease. She herself should reflect on this situation. She put herself in this situation no one forced her to have sex with this guy. She should most certainly take some sort of accountability.

not that I defend MB for the pick, but having CHaracter doesn't mean you cannot make mistakes. especially at 17.

The Shea Weber acquisition went so well for the Habs Bergevin decided he needed to add another Predator to replace him

No way a kid with a top 15 talent is making it through 7 rounds of a draft. Somebody was taking him at some point.

I'm not a puritan so I must ask, why can't a 17 year old (apparently she was 18 years old at the time but I may be wrong) have sex? Biology suggests human sex and birthing is actually best in the teen years but religion and society have created this BS puritan standard so I need to know why can't a 17 or 18 year old have sex? See that's what you're missing from my argument. I lost my virginity at 15, I've never had a STD or STI, I've never had a child or impregnated a woman, I've never had a situation of sexual violence or any of that. Why would I blame the girls who were awesome enough to let me flop around on them for 34 seconds when I was a dumb kid?

Selecting the guy flies in the face of saying you value character as much as hockey sense and skating when scouting. Clearly that isn't the case so the hypocrisy is laid bare

He was hands down the best player available. Fills a massive need. I understand why MB made this pick. Strictly business.
- Mr.FunFacts

Amazing how you can't comment on any of my points at all, or answer the last question I posed to you.

PR is very much a part of the'GM's job--strictly business--representing a culture. . . . Something that has been spoken of a great deal by MB if you recall.

Selecting this player put business above both the victim AND the player's wishes, if his statement/request were genuine, of course. In his statement he expressed wanting time to mature and EARN the privilege of being drafted in the NHL. Bergevin disregarded that, and worse, disregarded the victim, simply for the needs of a hockey team to draft the best available player.

You can keep talking, but there's really no defending it. Business has ethics, too, especially one that relies on thousands of fans to pay the bills.
