Wonder if Monahan is still available with Capt Serious questionable? Strome plus a cap dump like deHaan? Would it be possible?

Also curious if Tampa pushes hard to offload cap. Can Stan still take on a cap hit like Johnson and a sweetener? You would thing picks are the needed sweetener now after the Jackets trade

- ikeane

Doubt Calgary would do that just waiting for blowman to overpay a free agent

Del Mastro was rated 89, got him at 105 so that breaks the pattern..................

Sure looks like they are drafting big strong Dman that can clear the crease and block shots.

I don't know any of them, so I can't really comment, but no female doging about Euro Smurfs today

- vabeachbear

They still need a point guard.

What are the odds Caleb and Seth being on the same team will make them both better dmen?

I still can't believe this move by Bowman, i fear he just made us mediocre for the next 5 to 10 years.

Dach & Reichel...and to a lesser extent Borgstrom.

Still trying to figure out your math for 22-23

- NamedSources

Borgstrom? His ceiling is a 2C.

It will become clear to you as soon as more moves are made.

Two years ago my brother in law visited from Red Deer Alberta. At the time he told me about a young Edmonton Oil King player who reminded him of Andrew Shaw. He told me this guy was a smallish player who plays with his nose over the puck, gets involved in puck battles, isn’t afraid to go to the tougher areas on the ice and was a real pest. He called me this evening and asked if I remember him telling me about this player because Chicago drafted him, Jalen Luypen. Shaw was a long shot to ever play in the NHL, hopefully this guy is too.

If anyone thinks the Hawks are in cap hell and have all these bad contracts...please go to cap friendly and look at the San Jose Sharks
- NamedSources

They currently have 3 bad contracts. Toews, Connelly, Jones. I would add Strome but that is only because he is so useless and I now fear what Z is going to fleece Bowman for on his contract.

Fire Bowman. Seriously. Nothing else matters at this point. I don't trust the pro staff to make good decisions on players.

I have have a feeling the Hawks hang on to Strome until there is a little more clarity on Toews' possible return.
- Rota's Rooter

They tried that. Didn't work the last time. They have enough centers to cover for Toews going on LTIR. Its not Strome is better than the rest.

I dunno ... I mean, seriously ... I got that some people were miffed about 573 of their posts ago (give or take a few hundred).

Personally, I don't see the value in that, however I have seen similar posts (almost verbatim) in the past 24 hours. And, while one the one hand it leads me to reminisce of a meme I saw a few years ago.... something like ... 'OMG!!!! There is somebody wrong on the internet!!!'

And balance that with do I have time to actually point that out? Who cares? It isn't my team, it isn't anyone here's team ... I saw Cassidy talking about ... hey they need a LD now, so there is a LD from Madison who is a newly made UFA and has some money from a former contract that was recently I guess subsidised by a previous employer .... and technically that is true -- Chicago did subtract 2x LDs from their previous season's lineup ... I wouldn't be overly surprised if they don't try to add another D on a short term contract ... and Big Zed I imagine should probably be history at his asking price. Not worth it.

Jc doesn't. Play him he cannot play wing is a natural centerman sorta so its time to move him and Zadorov.

His current GM's assessment of Nolan Allen

7. To learn more about first-round pick Nolan Allan, we talked with Prince Albert general manager Curtis Hunt.

What do you see as Nolan’s upside?
I think Nolan can play just about any way you want. I think the game’s easy for him. He’s got great poise, obviously the physical element we saw with Team Canada. But he’s a guy that’s getting better, better and better. He probably hasn’t had some of the offensive opportunity to this point, but certainly with junior hockey, the nature of that beast, as he goes into this season and beyond, he’ll be a mainstay on our blue line. We believe he’s going to be a top-four D at the next level.
With his physicality, what makes him so effective in that area?
Well, his timing is impeccable. It’s simply the understanding of time, space, distance. And then, of course, he’s so strong. He skates, the way he can move his body. I think it’s a missing element in a lot of our game today. We’ve gone to more of a skill, speed-type game. Not that Nolan can’t play that, but he also has this little tool in the box.

Do you see the potential for his offense and puck skills to come around?
I think this year was a tough year for everybody, but just about the time he was starting to take off, he took off and went to Team Canada. You know, we didn’t see him the last 10 games inside the hub in Regina. I think all the tools are there for him. He can walk the line. He’s got poise. He’s got a great release. He can get pucks through to the net, which is as important as anything in today’s hockey. Yeah, it’s a matter of time to simplify, but that’s a young player thing. They like to overcomplicate things. But he can make that first pass as well. He has escapability and the ability to get himself out of trouble either way.

What’s he like off the ice and personality-wise?
There’s a couple things. One, he’s a scholastic player of the year on our side. So, there’s a commitment to school. School’s not easy for junior hockey because of the travel, this year even tougher because of the online, so there’s a discipline component to that as well to make sure you’re on top of assignments and you’re getting stuff mailed in or emailed in, sent in. There’s a maturity there.
The other thing is there’s an ease about him. He comes from a bigger family, obviously a hockey family background. His dad was a Tacoma pick. His uncle was Chad, who played, an ex-Saskatoon Blade. He’s got a big group of siblings. That’s a bigger family. There’s a grounding there as part of a big family, a farm kid. He’ll put the work in and he puts the time in.
From The Athletic
That last part makes me think that, at least personality and work ethic wise, he'd fit in nicely with DBC, Dach, Kane, etc.

- pdx2ord

I certainly hope your correct, as I was one of his detractors. He seemed always getting caught bobbling pucks, not finding the ways out vow jams without panic. and seemed on a plateau not an upward track. I have seem his admiral ability of block shots, and handling attackers in us end with an excellent back pedal and four direction speed.

Kyle Woodlief listed him as the 7th most over-rated players in his Alexander Daigle Trophy, saying "many nights this year he wouldn't have had to audition for The Walking (Brain) Dead.

He is young.

I think the Blackhawks wanted Chase Stillman to be there after Ottawa took Tyler Boucher at #10.

Perhaps that's what Stan's planning to get his pick back. Tampa's pick would suck and so far nobody is giving up a 1st as a sweetener. Stranger things have happened.

I wanted as many picks as possible in this draft. Due to the funk caused by the pandemic I really believe 5 yrs from now kids drafted late are gonna be useful NHLers, more so than most any yr. I think strong scouting teams like TB are gonna unearth some good ones...... Hawks? We'll see.

Unless a kid is a USHLer I have to hunt video like anyone else so I'm behind. I like back class, kids who played in the Brick Invitational, WHC-17, Hlinka, WJC's, drafted real high in CHL drafts and the Hawks have a couple who check a box or two.

Del Mastro in every important tournament except the Hlinka which was cancelled, Allan WHC and WJC same as Del Mastro, Dach drafted 6th overall as a Bantam, Harding played in the Brick, love EP's report on Stjernborg's motor, played in the WCH as a 17 yr old and this yr as an 18 yr old played 30 pro games in the top Svedish league the SHL (that's good), the Connor Kelley kid played in the WCH, played a season with the powerhouse U of MN Duluth and although his stats don't say much he played with the USNDP only 50 kids play on those two national teams out of a population of 330 million.

Would like to see them swing on a goalie every yr and they didn't. Never know when a 5th rd pick ends up as one of 32 starters. Took 4 Dmen and 4 forwards. Now that StanBow traded away this yrs and next yrs chance at a top 6 type and with the pipeline near bare of top 6 types they gotta hit late on one of them, or get one from Europe. After Dach next forward taken was at 108.

Guess I didn't answer your question cuz I really don't know. Like the look "on paper" of Allan and Del Mastro. Lotta kids with back class ...... With Jones on board does StanBow feel he can limit drafting smallish puck moving Dmen? Seems he went big at the position.

Love that the lil ole 16 team USHL had more kids drafted than any of the Major Junior leagues, IIRC all of them are 20 team leagues, (OHL, WHL, QMJHL) AGAIN!!

And of course the Mighty Chicago Steel had a bunch drafted, AGAIN. 2 in the 1st rd and think a total of 7 or 8. I'll know more tomorrow but my guess is that club had more kids drafted than any Jr team on earth. .......... Tired of StanBow check out a Steel game for 10 bucks, kids skate with the team for free after Saturday games.
