I think the point was Allen was guy that could have taken a 60 and used 32 for a different player. - Elbows15
Possibly he could have been available later in the draft but if the Hawks had him rated at 32 then he was the right pick, no? And if the hawks rated him where they did, who’s to say another team didn’t? Like I said we won’t know for a few years. |

I'm not as upset with the Jones deal as most. Yes, Stan overpaid in the deal and the extension but I don't think it cripples the franchise. It will likely hurt the team in years 6-8 of the new deal much like the last few years of Keith's deal did. Probably a bit more and without the 3 Stanley Cups. For the record, even at the same salary I would have signed Hamilton over acquiring Jones. Even at $9.5 million the Hawks could have got Hamilton for 4-6 years.
However, the Avs are paying top dollar for Makar's prime years and that's an investment work making 100% of the time. Great deal for Colorado. - DarthKane
Jones isn't going to help this team be better and SB pissed away his best chance to get a difference maker in the draft next season. This contract isn't going to age well by year 2, let alone 6-7. FFS, my marriage barely lasted longer than Jones contract will. |

Thanks Theo for the job you do!
While we all have our opinions on this trade, when does the leash break for Colliton and his staff? As we have all suffered through watching the poor play of this team, some questions come to mind:
1. When does the responsibility for continuing to use poor schematics get held accountable? Can't keep pounding a square peg into a round hole. Special teams are a joke, Defensive zone scheme sucks.....
2. If our head coach's strength is developing young players, who have we seen develop? Example: Hagel's energy and play are intrinsically motivated and are not Coach based.... Boqvist? Bye bye & don't let the door hit you in the a**! Strome has diminished....
3. AGAIN The Hawks Special Teams are a joke. Why is there no change?
4. Since Kampf's only value is at the dot, why isn't someone else being groomed for that role that has an offensive pulse?
Organizational talent and depth are wonderful and WE NEED MORE! Yet you cannot win continuing to go in the direction that this staff leads. As soon as the Hawks fire Collion & his NHL Staff, the better the on ice results will be and the sooner we will get back to competing for AND WINNING the Stanley Cup!
Please let me know your thoughts. - Power29
i said it before many times until BOWMAN and JC are here blackhawks will not make the playoffs and will either be stuck in mediocrity or as a bottom dwelling team like BUFFALO for years to come. I hope that is not the case but that is where its headed unfortunately. I ll also say it abd been very adamant about i have never like bowman and only reason he still has a job is because of his last name. |

Meh. I don't even care about the Hawks at this point. I got 3 Cups. |

Extremely good chance this is worse than the Seabrook contract almost immediately. - BINGO!
Hawks had a choice to either stay the course and make the team better longer term, or overpay for a popular player to put more casual fans in the seats. They opted for the latter. IMO the hawks would be a better team several years from now with Boquist, Sillinger, this years second and next years first than with Jones and his large cap hit. |

At least Nolan Allan has some size and supposedly can skate. One scout described his game as 'new age necessary' because he cleans up mistakes by smaller D partners. He played well with Brandt Clarke on the U 18 team that walzed thru that tournament in Dallas earlier this year. He's a lottery ticket that might cash 4-5 years from now or may just never be heard from again.
The Jones acquisition and payment is pretty much indicative of a desperate GM who knows he has much work to do with his roster to have any chance at all of making the playoffs in the Central. No playoffs or a bad year and Stanbo and his hand picked coach are on the street looking for work and at that point not worried about the draft picks they gave up to get Jones.
I will judge Seth Jones by what I see on the ice in a Hawks jersey not by past performance charts. Those are for claiming race horses at Arlington Park.
And I have another reason to hope - as you know the great strategist John Tortorella somehow found a way to diminish the performances and reputations of more than just Seth Jones - P-L Dubois, Patrick Laine, Wennberg, William Karlsson, Max Domi, Sonny Milano, Ryan Murray and the list is actually longer. - RickJ
Three comments from the Sportsnet Analysts caught my attention yesterday. Power is a good skater, he’s a smart player and he reminded one analyst of Brent Seabrook, minus the offensive upside.

All I can hope is the Hawks completely blow next season, grab the number one lottery spot and that Jones does the unusual and bucks the trend of his play and becomes a solid contributor. |

I am hoping Jones suffers a serious back injury that ends his career and they can LTIR him for the duration of the contract.
Solid contributor. There is a lofty goal for one of the highest paid d-men in the league. |

Hawks pick next year is lottery protected, there’s still an opportunity to get a difference maker, we shall see. |

I don’t think the hawks have enough top end talent to compete for anything but a playoff spot. The draft is vital to get that top end talent. Not sure who posted it yesterday but by cutting the rebuild short I think the hawks have relegated themselves to mediocrity for a few years. Should the hawks get a lottery pick and get a Shane Wright or Matthew Savoie next season it gives them young top end talent they badly require. |

He could've been had w/either of their 4th round picks, 60 was an overreach also

Just for the top 2 spots. And it is being said to be a deep draft. So, they will get no part of it in the 1st round. |

I wouldn’t be too concerned about where Nolan Allan was drafted until a few years down the road, remember where Datsyuk and Zetterberg as well as Duncan Keith were drafted.
As for Jones, all I can say is I hope playing for Torts negatively impacted his game and he’s able to rejuvenate it in Chicago or the residents of this board will be even more upset than with the Seabrook signing. - paulr
