My dream has come true:
my profile;
Kirby’s l’il brother is a big left winger who puts hit head down and drives to the net. At this juncture isn’t finished developing his acceleration and top gear, but he gets there, and when he does, he hits and finishes his checks. He is a dominant board player who is literally able to knock defenseman down in puck battles. His puck control is also very good, and is very difficult to move off the puck. A smart offensive zone player who never throws away possessions. Effective offensively, but still in the developmental stage. He will cut sharply en route to the front and find a small space where pucks opportunistically find him. Finds pucks sneaking out of traffic. From the cycle down low, he will steam out to the post. Will shoot towards the goalie’s far side pad to create rebounds to the low slot. He is hard on the back check. Hit opponents with frequency. He will drop the gloves. Posssesses strong puck control. Still a work in progresses there is effective offensive ability but it needs to improve.

A first round pick has a 50% chance of playing 300 NHL games and a 2nd rounder has a 25% chance of playing 300 games. Pretty sure Jones will play 225 games of top line D for the Hawks making this trade statistically worth it. - stevefrmglencoe
But that wasn't the full trade, so you have to recalibrate your statistical analysis. That is, the hawks lost about 20 spots in this years 1st round as well as losing Boqvist, while only getting a 6th rounder back.
One could make the argument this would push your 225 game calculation to over 400, perhaps over 500 games (as Boqvist alone should have at least 2 very good years somewhere in the future, probably more).
Thus, the 'breakeven' could be more like needing S.Jones to having 6-7 excellent years. Possible, but now pushing the envelope more vs. your original, more cheery analysis. |

I think the Hawks are a lot closer to the playoffs than most people think because they're in the Western Conference. It's basically Colorado & Vegas then everybody else. If you look at their own division every team has issues...Landeskog may leave the Avs...who knows how good Minnesota is...Nashville is in turmoil...Phoenix..forget about it...Winnipeg lacks consistency...St Louis is on the decline....Dallas who know...The Hawks are no different.
As far as the cap, beyond the 22-23 season the Hawks now have 3 players under contract...Jones, Stillman, Seabrook. There will be a lot of moving parts over the next few years. I don't think the play of Jones will ever be equal to the amount of money they gave him but I also believe he is not as bad as some are making him out to be.He has had two rough seasons that were affected by the pandemic. I think there were a lot of factors namely his D partner being hurt most of last year, playing for a bad team, etc....
And this deal is not Seabrook ll...there are so many differences it is ridiculous to compare.

They will fight for a playoff spot and miss consistently while being mired in mediocrity.
Minny is better. NAshville is better. St. Louis is for another season.
Yeah, Seabrook actually contributed to winning.
Dach needs a new contract after this season. So does Murph. Hagel needs to be signed. And so on. They still will be stuck paying Jones 9.5 for the next 8 years. So every year starts with 12% of you cap already spent. |

Seabrook contributed to winning before the contract was signed.
They may be better but the gap between them is not wide. |

This is not a playoff team. They are still going to have trouble scoring. Not to mention defending. Cause take a look at the left side of that defense. |

Coaching another big problem. Etc..

I like the Jones move and I do think they over paid both what they gave CBJ and the $'s. However, I've been bidding on houses in Indiana for three months now and have yet to buy a house...
I don't think this team is where they will end up before they get to camp they still need more and have the ability to get it. |

With what? The only trade assets worth anything are guys they shouldn't be moving. Especially if Bowman and the pro scout staff are making the calls. |

With what are they going to make moves? Who are they trading? Do you really want Bowman making those decisions? Hagel, Kampf, Suter, Nylander, Gaudette and Z all need contracts.
Not a one of those guys is worth much. Before you get all happy about only 3 players under contract in 2 seasons, realize they are at 50M for 8 players already for next season. |
