Well we dont really have a true defined 1st line, its 1A and 1B. Its the same lines everyone posts with Panarin’s line at the top.
- aecliptic

putting lines together right now is like trying to a book report of a 200 page book when you only read the first 90 pages.

I did one once by just trying to read the brief synospis on the back haha

got a big fat F on that one

but of course I just blamed it on "woke politics" at the time

Fortunately the internet and “summarizing” made it easier to get through it all.

I'm confused why the Bruins wouldn't qualify Nick Ritchie

Not a clue, wish we had space for him on the wing.

Maybe felt it was too much $ to commit to a 4th liner since he would be behind Marchand, Hall and DeBrusk (who theyve been wanting to trade right?).

unless they plan on negotiating with him for lower than the qualifier or if they are saving their 20 million in cap space to do some real crazy poop

They have to resign McAvoy next year which will eat up a big chunk of that.

They may do something crazy but Im not sure how good their prospects are.

If we could swing Strome for picks or a guy like Pinto, then turn some combo of Chytil/Gauthier/Jones/Nils etc into Dvorak or a similar center, I’d call that successful.
- nyrangers9479

Something has to be done about replacing Strome. Rangers can't be willing to re-sign him. If all else fails, they hang onto him until another trade possibility materializes during the season.

It's too bad Gourde needs surgery and will be out into November. I could see Seattle taking Strome and next year's 1st rounder from the Rangers for Gourde. I think he's a 2C on most teams other than Tampa, Pens, Leafs, etc.

Edit: and some plus added by Seattle to even it out, of course. Gourde is older than Dvorak, but he's also under contract for the next few years at a reasonable cap hit.

Late bloomer whos production has been regressing since his break out year, not sure Id want to gamble on someone like that, about to hit 30.

The Rangers are taking an interesting tact here with the trades, signing and drafting.
Feels like overcompensating a need somewhat. But that isn't to say it won't work at all. But I get the feeling there is a lot of pressure to make this team "grittier" even at the cost of "the best player" acquired mentality.
Slight concerned with this approach as it could be a small set back year of focusing on one type of player.

I'm not saying Strome is all that and a bag of chips, but you do realize that his stats, across the board are similar to Barzal..right? He's not the worst option at 2C

Agreed a lot better than people realize. I would prefer a better two way center as 2c that can win draws tho. Strome takes a ton of penalties and is pretty poor defensively

Agreed he's got good chemistry with Panarin (who wouldn't?), but no good on face-offs, no 200-ft game, no physicality. Can't re-sign a player like that given his current cap hit, so he needs to be replaced, eventually (meaning now or later this season)

Rangers have 3 similar centers...Zib, Strome and Chytill are all finesse skilled centers but offer no physical or grinding game at all. Let alone no faceoff skills lol. They need some variety in there. Something has to change

Strome would look to pass on a penalty shot and had a 43% faceoff percentage last year

He was the one who fought against Quinn trying to play a more North South game. There is no way he is staying, just can't see it.

Well, Drury better be bringing in a good two way 2C in if Strome traded. I don't know who that is going to be

Well yea they would have to replace him. But out of the top 3 centers now, that is where the change is happening IMO

I feel caution is needed. Strome is the odd man out for change of style down the center. But in reality, there are A LOT worse centers than there are better centers than Strome. So the right fit and right player is the key. Meaning rushing to move him would probably yield a worse result. Even if the guy is more physical.

I don't know no matter what he is gone in a year, don't think there is really much caution needed. Just don't see any way Rangers sign him long term as a UFA. Getting something for him now is a bonus lol
