Per sources, #GoHabsGo will not be re-signing C Phillip Danault before the UFA period opens this Wednesday, July 28. Two teams that are reportedly showing "extreme" interest in the elite defensive center are #NYR and #FlaPanthers. We'll see where this goes... #HockeyTwitter

this could very well be a nobody, but hey! it's a rumour site! or so I have been told

especially somebody who calls himself "Pete O File"

I'm not sure I would follow that account, might end up on a watch list.

I'm not saying the trade was even (first liners don't grow on trees), but I think Blais is a solid fourth liner who can fill in short term on any line. His shot is actually decent and I could see him hitting a career high of 12-15 goals at some point if he finds time on a second line due to injury fill in.

Dude likes to hit too.

Man I hope we stay away from Danault. He had 5 goals in 53 games this past season and has 2 goals in 38 playoff games including only 1 goal in 22 playoff games this year. He’s not a 2C and if we sign him as one he will quickly become the ire of Rangers fans.

Buch should have yielded more return, but that said, if Buch was on the block for a while, this is likely the best we got. remember, St Louis has to sign him and he may not want to commit long term to a city he isnt familiar with and may want to explore options. the hope is that his production will be replaced by Kravtsov and Kakko taking on larger roles. and Blais checks other boxes. he is somebody we need to be harder to play against.

So then u do what BUF is doing with Eichel, u don’t trade him just to trade him. We could’ve signed him to his 1 year RFA contract and traded him during the season or at the deadline. I’m sure once teams missed out on FA signings they wanted teams would’ve been interested in him also. I feel like this trade was Drury just making a trade to make a trade and it was a crap one.

I’m so sick of hearing they did it for cap room also, they have plenty of cap space right now. Do u see Tampa just giving away guys on their roster bc they’re OVER the cap? No, they’re waiting for the right deal/opportunity to make a trade. The Buch trade has rookie mistake by Drury written all
Over it. We replaced a 1st line winger with a 2022 2nd that’s 4 years away from playing in the NHL and a 4th liner, terrible trade.

if somebody had signed Buch to an offer sheet anywhere under 6.1 mil a year, the compensation would have been 1 first rounder and a 3rd.

I wonder if there was a chance that the Rangers feared one was coming for Buch and preferred Blais and a 2nd rounder to a first rounder and a 3rd

or if a team would sign him to 4.1 mil a year offer sheet where it would just be a 2nd rounder as compensation

Drury's direct quote was "there's only enough cap space to go around"

people are only saying it because that's the reason that has been given

You take a 1st and 3rd over a 2nd and Blais everyday of the week. You like Blais so much you trade the 3rd for him or a guy like Hajek/Gauthier etc 1 for 1. If the offer sheet was 4.1 million u HAVE to match that. I think Drury panicked and made a rookie mistake and traded our most value able trade chip for pennies on the dollar

100% you do, 4.1 for a top line winger is nothing. We’re paying Goodrow 3.6, Buch wouldn’t be worth 4.1? Come on

Flagged this by accident, by bad.

Why do you keep saying Buch was our most valuable trade chip. That’s complete blasphemy and you’re saying that for dramatic effect to push your narrative that it was a bad trade.

I think it’s less about cap space for this year and more about ice time.

Next year it’s cap space.

But for this year, it’s time to put Kakko, Laf, Kravatov and Chytil into positions to succeed and shipping Buch opens up a lot of ice time in the top 6.

I don't know how someone with no contract can be our most valuable trade chip

Then who’s more valuable that the team is willing to trade this year? I’ll wait

He’s a RFA, which means he’s basically signed to a 1 year deal somewhere in the ballpark of 5. If he was an UFA I could get it, but he’s not. Like I said, if the right deal wasn’t there he didn’t HAVE to be traded right this second. Drury panicked and made a trade just to make a trade.

if he signs a 1 year deal, then he becomes a UFA though next summer I think. So it’s basically a 1 year rental potentially.
