It wasn't a response solely to you. I just feel like I'm missing some element of how paying Buch that money would have been good for the short term future of the Rangers.

Kravtsov has 20 NHL games and 4 points, I'm not sure his RFA deal next year is going to cost a whole lot

A fair point. I thought it was 2 years away.
Regardless, watching him for those 20 games it was easy to see that he has what it takes. I'm as excited to see his progress as anyone else's.

Lets say he puts up 50 pts this year… where does that put him?

I'd say easily at that $2.5M mark.

I don't understand. Isn't $5.8M exactly the kind of contract we were looking to avoid? It would be squarely in the way of paying Kaapo and Vitali what we hope they will deserve in a couple years. And, we got a needed skill set in return.
I just don't get all the hate on this one. And again, I am a big Buch fan.

I agree with Tony here. Locking him up near 6mil a year and taking a spot on the wing doesn't mesh with the plans that I see. Maybe I am wrong. But I am not sure Buch is a 6mil man as much as I think he is talented.
I did not like the trade, but I also would not have liked this contract.

With more money than I'd expect otherwise. But I'm not going to assume he'll jump from 4pts in 20gp to 50pts in however many games he plays here. I'm not knocking the kid, but that just seems like it'd be a large jump in production year-over-year

this would have also meant Kakko or Kravs on the 3rd line for the next 4 years - no thanks.

Considering the lines theyre on, 20g 30a isnt unfathomable for Kakko and Krav each.

looking at it in a vacuum (i.e. disregarding our roster/cap situation) i think it's clear he is worth at least that. almost a ppg winger who plays PP and PK

People have to settle with this trade. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t the worst trade ever (which it seems like lol)

Bottom line is we all knew Buch wasn’t coming back. The writing was on the wall all season, now it’s some sort of shock all the sudden? I swear our fans are the worst in sports 🤦‍♂️

Instead of trading Buch, they trade who? Kakko? Kravtsov? Hell no do you do that. You trade the guy due for a big raise which was Buch

They got back a sandpaper player which we needed desperately. Is he as good as Buch? No. But they’re two completely different players, but Blais is cheaper and has a defined role that they didn’t have last year.

I think Drury has recognized that they didn’t have a deep playoff team right now. You can have all the skill in the world on two lines, but those bottom 6 six players CANNOT be plugs. Goodrow, Blais and Nemeth all make them much harder to play against now. Especially in the playoffs

I agree to a point but about half of those 20 games he was on the 4th line hardly getting minutes

Idk. They have basically 15 forwards right now lol. You have to assume Strome goes once FA ends and a team needs a center. Maybe Gauthier? Barron? Someone has to go if they keep adding.

I think a perfect fit would be Glendening. You no longer have to worry about who can win a faceoff with him. He is literally the best in the league on faceoffs. Or Kuraly. Martinook is a winger? I think they’d need a center simply for increased depth there

4th line of Rooney, Glendening, and Blais
3rd line of Goodrow, Kreider and Gauthier

That’s a terrific bottom 6

The way I see it is…
Kreider, Bonino, Goodrow
Blais, Rooney/Glendening, Martinook

The good thing about those lines is you have multiple people fully capable of winning faceoffs.

IDK, man. I thought Barron looked pretty much ready for the role of 4C. I like the idea of Bonino, but I wouldn't be surprised if they wait for a while, with the market as crazy as it is right now.

Hearing #Canes are closing in on an agreement with UFA D Tony DeAngelo.

Not done yet. But expecting a 1-year deal. There was lots of interest and the opportunity to play for Rod Brind'Amour was appealing.

I feel like Barron should play 3C or play in the AHL. I cant imagine being on the 4th line is beneficial to his growth.

I would bet he starts in Hartford. Getting all the minutes down there being in the top 6. There really is no need for him to be in the NHL just yet
