So then u do what BUF is doing with Eichel, u don’t trade him just to trade him. We could’ve signed him to his 1 year RFA contract and traded him during the season or at the deadline. I’m sure once teams missed out on FA signings they wanted teams would’ve been interested in him also. I feel like this trade was Drury just making a trade to make a trade and it was a crap one.

I feel like you are being willfully ignorant.
Remember about 10-11 weeks ago when we were all reeling because Dolan fired everyone for being too cautious with the rebuild?? And now you're all about the (frank)ing retarded notion that you know better than Drury because he is not waiting around for the absolute best return. He is being pushed by his boss to make changes NOW. Not sure how that could be any clearer.
We got harder to play against, which was priority #1. How is this such a surprise? I'm so tired of everyone who has a keyboard and a 6th grade reading level thinking they know exactly what's happening behind closed doors.

I don't know how someone with no contract can be our most valuable trade chip

Exactly.
It's almost like the person saying that doesn't know as much as they profess to.

He’s a RFA, which means he’s basically signed to a 1 year deal somewhere in the ballpark of 5. If he was an UFA I could get it, but he’s not. Like I said, if the right deal wasn’t there he didn’t HAVE to be traded right this second. Drury panicked and made a trade just to make a trade.
- nyrangers9479

You ever think Buch didn't want a 1 year deal just to stay and Drury knowing he wont be here for long term wanted to get the kids minutes this year coming up

U know what, your right. I’m very excited that we traded our top line ppg winger for a 4th liner and 2022 2nd that’s 4 years from the NHL. Definitely made our team better. You changed my mind.

He doesn’t have a choice if he wants more than a 1 year deal, he’s a RFA. If they don’t agree it goes to arbitration and they decide how much he gets for that 1 year. Cap space is not an issue this year.

I’m over how bad this trade was, you guys are right, love the 2022 2nd. Glad we upgraded Buch with a 4th liner that was in his coaches dog house, definitely fair trade value.

I’m not, but guys defending it like it was a good deal when it’s not is ridiculous. Drury got hosed.

Again, he wasn't going to be here for long term, it seems like Drury wants the kids to have more ice time in bigger roles. Even if for one more year of Buch, it slides them down in the lineup.

I think its a combo of both.

Buch had to go to open cap space and ice time for other people but it still can be considered a weak return for one of your best players from last year.

It's ok to go both ways

Still being stupid, eh?
Do you truly not understand how a guy that is not currently under contact doesn't hold the same value as someone that is acquired with the team knowing exactly how much they are paying him and for how long? Because you have conveniently ignored that every time it's brought up.
Do you not understand that Drury is not being given the leash to be patient and build optimally?
Do you not understand that 31 other GM's are aware that Dolan has given a mandate for change to happen now and that might just have an effect on negotiations?

I was a huge Buch supporter and loved seeing him grow into the potential that only Rangers fans thought he could. But, I try to live in reality. And our reality is that the owner is (frank)ing around with this team right now. This isn't your fantasy league where you can make a line up every 7 minutes bringing in guys from other teams that their GM's have no intention of moving, just because you want them.

And that’s fine he wasn’t going to be here long term, I’m not saying he was. But u dont trade a guy just to trade him and that’s what this trade feels like to me.

1. I don’t have a fantasy league
2. Ur a bozo
3. Reinhart seemed to have plenty of trade value when he brought back a 1st from FLA as a RFA.
4. Buch’s career PPG is .65, Reinharts career PPG is you guessed it, .65

I just don’t get how it’s THAT much of a lop sided trade when Reinhart went for a 1st?

On what planet is Buch’s value equal to Reinhart?

Reinhart is younger than Buch and has five 20 goal seasons. Buch only has two 20 goal seasons.

And let’s be real - we all know that every single year up until last, Buch has only showed up for maybe 50% of those seasons at most. He was consistent throughout last year but it was a short season…and other teams scouting departments are factoring in his entire career tendency rather than just what he did last season.

To me, Buch for a 2nd and a quality 4th liner who make an impact like Brandon Prust did is consistent with Reinhart for a 1st.

I’m by no means defending the trade. I think Buch should have brought back a first instead of a second. But I also know I’m not in the front office and by no means the smartest guy in the room.

What I don’t agree with is that Buch was our most valuable trade chip. Nils, Schneider, Kravs and Kakko all had higher value at the time of the trade and we’re all players I could have seen the team parting with.

Post has learned that Rangers have qualified Chytil, Shesterkin, Hajek, Gettinger, Ronning, Huska. Did not qualify Rykov, Crawley, Fontaine, Newell.

Exactly.

And as far as the poor return, how far off was it really? Were people expecting multiple firsts back or something? Maybe a little more promising of a roster player? I could have seen an upgrade on both pieces, but Drury sees Blais as a quality role player and the second is one round late.

To me as long as they fill his cap space with a upgrade at center I can get over the return
