Compared to how he started his career, yes, Reilly had his strongest year in the NHL this past season. Is it worth signing him?

He's low on my list of free agent D-man to consider but he'd likely be one of the more affordable ones. I'd look at Benn, Cole, Hamonic, McCabe, Merrill, and Murray first.

Murray would be a good get. He's been injury prone but is solid defensively when healthy. Excellent skater, too.

McCAbe is the only one worth signing in that group. Murray is okay but why bother, he won't last a season.

Benn and Merrill flat out suck. Cole will be overpaid by some contender and Harmonic is still playing?

Very high price, especially with next year’s pick thrown in. Expensive extension, but that could work itself out.

I think more highly of his skills and potential than some - top 10 Norris consideration for a couple of years there, for whatever that’s worth (something). I think Columbus was a toxic situation the past couple of years, since the sweep of Tampa - Torts (like Keenan back in the day) overstaying his sell-by date, perhaps - had to affect his play. There’s no reason for his skills to have eroded so quickly.

But Stan seemed to be bidding against himself there - thru the years, he seems to have no concept of “market” - there’s the guy he wants, and by God, he’s gonna get him.

But I think Jones the Elder will be good here.

Now: Suter and Kampf not qualified, Zadorov qualified - I hope Stan has a plan.

Is there even room for him on the roster? Clearly the Hawks are giving Nylander another shot. Gaudette and Hagel just resigned.

Connolly still on the roster. I assume Hardman gets a shot too since he is under contract. Kurashev will be on the roster.

Then you have Strome still and presumably Borgstrom gets a shot to stick.

Hagel didn't re-sign. Entwhistle isn't ready to handle any tough match-ups. I don't think he skates well enough to be a center in NHL.

He only received a qualifying offer meaning he still is Hawk property. He can sign with the Hawks, sits out or goes to play in Europe.

Read recently both sides are far apart. Hawks probably offering about 1M. Don't know what he is asking for.

Barkov signed for this year. Stralman's contract expires after this year so his savings don't affect Barkov's next contract.
