Pius Suter has yet to receive a qualifying offer from the Blackhawks. They have until later today to do so. It’s possible a deal gets done today, but the Blackhawks likely don’t want to qualify Suter and go to arbitration with him. He’d have a solid case with his rookie numbers.

I don't see the Hawks letting Suter go for free, he has too much value.

Hopefully Stan has two goals:
1) Can he move one or more of Zadorov, deHaan, Connolly (and maybe Strome) for picks creating cap space.
2) Can he use the available cap space to take on a bad expiring contract with one year left and get back into the first round of next years draft?

THEO, nice write up. I was wondering your thoughts on UFA defenseman Mike Reilly. Wasn't he highly touted when he first came up ? He seems to have hit his peak last year, as he was very reliable defenseman for Boston. Good active stick and very good passer. He should not be too highly priced, he's not small but not big. I think if Hawks can dump some salary, maybe DeHaan, Reilly could be a good fit. Your thoughts ? |

Suter vs Kahun? Who gets the bigger contract? At about the same price (+/- a mil $) who would you rather have?

problem is Hawks have been allegedly actively shopping Zadorov since last deadline if you believe the blue check marks.
SO either Stan is asking TOO much, or the offers are well below market value.....game of chicken and at this point....just walk away. Last you want to do is pay this guy close to 4+ million and get stuck with him. - SteveRain
Hawks can qualify him at his current salary (which is already to high @ $3.2m). Hawks get no takers because other teams can see what he is. Colorado is probably laughing that they got Saad for that oaf.
I wouldn't walk away, but at a certain point I would take whatever the best lowball offer is. Heck, a 7th rounder is better than nothing. |

The market tells you what "market value" is. |

i agree....clock has about struck midnight. Take what you can get and walk away.....hopefully, a team that misses out on a ufa or trade will come knocking about DeHaan. Not sure if Hawks would have to retain some money out of the 4.55 aav but may be worth exploring.
Would love to see them kick strome and Connolly off the island as well.... |

Usually there is a flurry of activity early on, but there are some real bargains/values to be had if you are patient. I would not mind Stan sitting on his hands (cue the Stan napping image) and doing some bargain shopping a few weeks from now after he has moved a salary or two and cleared some cap space. |

Stan got his big FA fish in Jones, huge overpay, but then again he takes a quality dman off the market by being bold. I have to imagine Dougie would of cost around the same but i guess Bowman didn't either care for him or in fear of getting in a bidding war |

Edmonton did not qualify Kahun. He'll be a UFA on Wednesday. |

really outside the 1st pick I guess it was a OK draft.

know they mention skating as issue for harding but look at the 2 min mark. When I first saw it I was thinking it was not him and he would be in the play later on in the highlight. he moves pretty well for 6-7 235. |

That’s why I asked. I am thinking they are comparable players and would like to see how their new contracts compare.

Brandon Hagel has received a qualifying offer from the Blackhawks. He isn’t arbitration eligible. He actually won’t be eligible after next season either. It’ll be interesting to see what he and the Blackhawks agree on this offseason. It could be a long process. |

Thought this might interest some folks on reaction to the Hawks drafting Dman Allan in rd 1. Steve Kournianos, The Draft Analyst, is solid and is a guest on quite a few podcasts........ After the pick he pulls out the Hawk's Dmen prospect list and likes the pipeline but he had the exact same reaction when he saw StanBow flanked by 42 women announcing the pick as I did.
Jump to 3:21:21 of the video. Wait for his evaluation of Allan, it comes after his take on the Hawk's organIzation for running out 62 women to help Stan Make the pick.

Wow that's a lot of money for a guy who didn't produce until the last 15 games of his contract |

I know that you’re kidding, but it’s all about WI-FI in 2021, I’m sure they are using some kind of portal to upload documents, or email. Fax machines are obsolete, unless you’re a government worker. |

Alex Nylander has also received his qualifying offer. He’s isn’t arbitration eligible. Considering he missed last season, you would think he doesn’t cost the Blackhawks too much. |

A 7th is essentially nothing. At that point I think I don’t qualify him, and then try to resign him as a FA at a price lower than his QO. Then maybe flip him at the deadline. It’s not likely to work, but if the alternative is a 7th rd pick, I’d take that gamble. |
