Listen people. The flyers are stuck between phases of a rebuild. Yes they have acquired some really nice young players. Now the elite players are need since we don’t have them. Getting rid of 2-3 bad contracts while still having a few AND adding long term big money contract back that aren’t that young core is stuck. I totally get the Ellis trade. And to an extent the risto trade although I would’ve focused after getting Ellis more on gaining higher end talent with my assets instead of focusing on risto. Personally I think the middle pair dman could’ve been addressed in Fa with a cheaper stop gap vet.

What we gave up to clear space (ghost +picks and then the cost to get risto IMO could’ve been able to go after future core higher end piece.

We should be just entering this phase. Sometimes teams and actually usually teams have to do this a few times (flipping young assets to improve.

As it stands assuming risto gets a slight raise extension the d is set or at least pretty much. It’s time to not (frank) up and keep 30year old coots and flip him. We have poop tons of young assets package a few or combo with some picks to get high end talent.

Florida gave what for reinhart? We gave more for risto. Laughable. Just an example.

This team will be made or broke by signing coots for more than 4 year deal. Maybe 5. If we give him 7-8 year deal it’s over think about it.
Coots 8
Hayes 7
Atkinson 6
Ellis 6
Risto 6
Provy 6
Tk 5
That’s half your cap flexibility over next 4+ years. Now add in sandy hart bee coming up soon

Where in those 7 players you see elite talent? Yeah some nice very good players.

Not good enough. Status quo purgatory

G is still one of the top players on the team, he isnt blocking anyone. He earns it
I really dont understand your thought process. Benching better players makes no sense at all

- bradster

Really he’s still one of the top players? Why ? How many times he lazy back check? How great was he on the pp? Where’s this greatness? He’s not a top player anymore. Father Time has been caught up with him. He hasn’t been a top player for awhile. He can still play well for periods. He’s at the secondary role player stage of career. Not a knock on him at all. I don’t get all the people that don’t see this.
And he earns it? Ok. If you say so. Maybe av just plays them vets. Bee looked so much better than g last year yet who averaged 19 minutes a game and who averaged 16?

The positions you are taking from this alternate account. If the board says red, you will post about how green is a much better option on the spectrum than red is. Your previous accounts would only troll certain posters, now you troll the board.

I get it -- I used to have multiple accounts too. I wasn't an ass to everyone, just mods -- but eventually, you grow up

but you do you boo

Why is he one of the best? Because he gets pp1 time where he scores 90% of his points? Because he’s a great leader? What exactly is he great at? What does he do to earn his ice time? Who do you see hustle more bee or g?

Go back the past 20 years and list all of the 2nd round hits the Flyers have had.

Hart - Allison - Hagg - NAK

thats the list of successful 2nd round picks and that is me being generous and including career bottom pair defenseman Hagg and 13/14th fwd NAK. If you include picks later than the 2nd round the last 20 years

Hart (hopefully figures it out)
Allison (looks very promising if he can stay healthy)
Hagg (6/7th d)
Lindblom (average 3rd/4th liner, hasnt fully returned to form since cancer. unfortunate)
Ghost (had to trade him because he had negative value to the team)
Maroon (never even really played for us so idk if he should count)
Sharp (Gave up and traded him for scraps)
Seidenberg (traded for old dinosaur Petr Nedved)

Basically, Flyers can't draft for poop past the 1st round, and when they do, they develop their guys poorly and or trade them for minimal value. But yes lets act like the Flyers are gonna hit on a bunch of 2nd rounders every year.

- I am excited about Samu tho

That’s debatable. How did we get lindros? I use kings as example because hexy was there for the whole building of the cup teams. Certainly drafting is the best option. However honestly we were too good to draft high and nopa pick was a gift that blew up. Kings traded several times young pieces to try to get higher end talent. Finally getting the right pieces with Richards/Carter. Look at what they gave up to acquire those pieces.

Honestly those really high end pieces are extremely hard to get. How often they come available? What gotta give up? Honestly if you aren’t gonna go try to get eichel type love him or hate him maybe we have to trade in phases.

Just an example and not proposing but put package like tk pick (s) + to get a higher end player. Idk who it’s just example. Then trade that player with assets to get even higher.

Think kinda like trade pick 25 + asset to get to pick 10. Then trade pick 10+asset to get to pick 1.

Obviously it can’t be done in a day. In the meantime don’t make decisions and moves that “just make you better” with no real plan to truly be cup contender. Or put yourself in cap situation in future.

Example g done after this year. At worse he plays season out and bye bye. Jvr plays out last 2 years bye bye. Trade if you can for whatever asset or use in package to get get higher end talent. If possible. If that deal can be made.

And coots…. Omg trade him now. You can definitely get a good haul for him. Once Fa hits and teams spend their money the list of available teams to make a deal with goes down. And the return goes down. There’s win now teams looking for a center. Poach them.

I like Bee but he couldn’t hold G’s jock strap last year. Bee is going to be a really good player but he is not yet. He is good for his age for sure. I like his game. But those veteran players 28-34 are just so smart and know how to play the game. Those guys are what hold down the tough minutes in big games.

This is such silly stuff. Really.

Stayin wants a rebuild. It is a good philosophy. Many people want to go that route. But Chuck is not going that route. Please give the trade Coots and G stuff a break. Only way the reverse this course is if they totally bomb out next year. Then you will see Chuck fired and maybe a big name moved. Maybe.

This team is not a bomb out team right now. Don’t see it.

Chuck said the team never smiled last year, and then goes sign sam, cam, risto. All of whom have a great attitude and are all happy. Chuck has their personalities figured out now, something ron never got to.
