If you're counting on him as a top 4 option the Habs should write the season off now. Wideman has played 41 NHL games since 16/17. Even penciling him in on the 3rd pair is questionable - Takemedrunkimhome
never said he would be a top 4 d. I asked a question.
But I doubt they are shopping for an 8th d. |

Have a hot start, crumble around christmass, try to sneak in the playoffs with the 8th spot and hope from a miracle from your goalies? - Fredobbface
it's amazing how often they repeat the cycle. and this run will basically validate Bergevin's entire approach.

last year he went for Toffoli, Anderson, Allen, Perry, Edmunsun. He made the team way better. |

I think that's the plan. That and Savard. - deadpoulet
Savard - Chiarot
Petry - Ed
Romanov - Wideman
Unless they do like in the playoffs and sprinkle the bottom pair with the top 4 guys, but I can't see that for an entire season.

Truth is they snuck in the playoffs 4th in the worst division in the NHL

Romanov needs to play this year.
KK will have his shot I guess. |

With Toffoli scoring at a 44 goal a season pace he'll likely never repeat |

and if he does fine. i want to see him either do something significant or stay put. like if all he does is sign David Savard for $5 million and bring in Cedric Paquette and Chris Wideman... what the hell is the point? - DoubleDown
Yup. But Paquette (950k) / Wideman (750k) aren’t huge deal. 1.7m$ used for depth.
Still about 19m to spend. Hopefully Savard isn’t more then 4-4.5m
I wouldn’t mind a 9m on Landeskog but I’m not sure he is what we need (top RD + 2C) |

im not criticizing his moves last summer at all. but this season they... started hot, cratered after that and hung on to a playoff spot by the skin of their teeth. year before they started hot, then cratered. year before that they started hot, faltered and then hung in the playoff race till the final week. whatever the roster, it just seems to be the cycle they're in. they sprinkle in a bottom-5 season now and then too.

ya i don't argue with any of this. i just don't want to see them use up most of their cap space without adding an impact player.

It might be Petry with Chiarot but I liked the Petry- Edmunson pairing last year so I would'nt touch that, would like become the first pair in reality

Leave Eddie with Petry, no debate. I think no Weber and Chiarot will look...not as good |

The impact player needs to agree to be here.
They don't need to spend all their cap. If they get Paquette to play on the 4th just to support KK and Evans, I'm ok with this. |

Easier to tweak the team with the talent pool they have.. I see them like Washington a few years ago, everybody thought Ovy could'nt play in a structure but they didn't panic and change the whole team, they brought in Trotz and he won the stanley cup.

Toronto is going after the Presidents Cup, Frig the Stanley, too hard to win that one. |

Yeah Savard is not really a handsome man. I mean Weber is no Chiarot but he's still 3-4 notches above Savard |
