Wow! Really? After all those things, the Carolina Hurricanes will sign Tony DeAngelo on one-year deal per @frank_seravalli. Yeah, Brind'Amour is probably the best guy who can flatten him. But still... This is really interesting.

I don't think the signing can be official until tomorrow.

So maybe the backlash makes them change their mind between now and then.

1. I think its dumb to change it back considering it never stopped talks from happening.

2. Do buyouts have any special permission?

- Aaron_85

First day of free agency is when standard player contracts expire. If a player has been bought out, he is no longer under contract and therefore has no standard player to contract to expire.

He's immediately a free agent.

Indeed - he seems to be able to take and throw a punch (at least in the OHL).

I just love the thought of the Leafs having a 'big guy' who actually plays big - can anyone remember the last one?

I think about big guys who were Leafs and names like Pony, Antropov, Freddy the Goat all come to mind and the guys who were tough in Toronto were more like Clark, Domi etc.....

And by tough I don't mean pure face punchers but rather guys who can do more than that.

Matt Martin I guess is the latest / last guy I'd say perhaps could have been fit into that bucket I guess?

Should have signed their goalies before they signed a teammate who goes around punching his own goalies.

Maybe DeAngelo wouldn't sign here because of Wayne Simmonds? Didn't want to fight him.......again

Or maybe Dubas never even entertained the idea.

That's where my money would be.

This is where I think it is. I don't have a particularly high opinion of Seravalli.

Dreger said on TSN 1050 there's some trade speculation about Ilya Mikheyev and Alex Kerfoot

Kerfoot is obvious but Micky is a bit surprising.

I think they can negotiate. But I don't think they can sign until tomorrow.

Otherwise I would think we would have seen a done deal from a bought out player by now.
