Interesting to hear about Poolman...don't know enough so hopefully it plays out that way. Pieces are in place...and most of the pieces are at least tradable now...unlike the last few years. - CoolerHeads
He looked good last year .

Didn't know that Benning signed Keeper as well, good depth pick up there as well.
He went and got 4 guys off my list, so I am not going to complain at all.
The team got bigger, stronger and much better today. |

I would rather just hang up the phone if the acquisition cost outweighs the players value.
Again, let's just agree to disagree and hopefully poolman proves me wrong. - Codes1087
Not an option. They had to sign someone. I’d rather overpay by $1MM than not dress 6 NHL caliber defensmen |

Not going to lie, I'd rather have Stecher than the D-men we have on the right side now. |

Really excited for next year.
Garland and Richardinson replacing Beagle and Roussel is a massive upgrade.
OEL, Poolman replacing Edler and Benn is a damn nice upgrade too |

As we start to construct the potential d pairings, it certainly doesn't scream championship pedigree, but that's just me. - Codes1087
Pens won a Cup with a worse D core. But Shaw is key here on shaping D by committee approach. Don't have to overplay 1 or 2 guys and spread out minutes on 3 pairs. |

I also won’t bite on another trade moving out cap having any bearing on new signings.
Rather focus on who will be here & not who isn’t. |

How is it an overpay? Did people not watch that Jets defense vs the Oilers in the playoffs? |

Did you watch them vs the Habs? Lol
The jets upgraded forbort and poolman to Dillon and Schmidt.
We upgraded edler and benn to OEL and poolman.

The Poolman contract isnt THAT bad. Slight overpay yes. But its cheap enough where if/when a better replacement is found - HALF the contract is able to be buried in the AHL IF he even clears waivers as a worst case scenario.
Dmen like him are at a premium. The cap should be going up again in a year or two and he should even have at least moderate trade value for the last two seasons.
Overall - we likely wont find anyone better at that price point for now. No prospects on the right side are close enough to be ready. This is as good as it gets for what we can afford and it has minimal long term risks

He's made out like a bandit in term and AAV. So far they're the most improved team in the conference.

I dont know why everyone is on my case for not liking one of the 5 or 6 signings Benning has done today. We don't all have to agree lol |

I agree, system needs to better and the forwards need to be better. D just needs to be stable, low event, and good at exiting the D zone. They have also addeds some depth pieces for the AHL.
Poolman is an NCAA guy so hopefully his development is just peaking.
The team has turn the cap space occupied by a bunch of fourth liners and a backup G into a top four d man, a top six winger, and two plus RHD men...can't complain about that. |

Yikes some of these contracts are brutal.
Granlund, 4X5, takes him until age 33/34.
Coleman, 6X4.9, takes him until age 35/36.
Hyman, 7X 5.5, takes him until 35/36.
