Is it really that absurd? I mean I know he’s “4th line center” but I’d argue his importance with special teams, face offs in all zones, and centering the most effective offensive zone entry line on the team. If Cizikas is on any other NHL team I think 4 per is more palatable. - kindlyrick
Yes. Yes it is.
Love Cizikas. He’s been a great 4C for the organization. But he’s not exceptional, nor should he command that kind of coin. I mean that’s damn near the same contract as Pageau, and Pageau is twice the player that Cizikas is.
2 years @ 3.25, or 4 years @ 2.75 is as high as I’d go. If that’s not enough, then I’d look elsewhere and wish Casey the best. |

It's not absurd, but it's going to make things get a little tighter a little quicker - eichiefs9
I hear you, I just feel like Cizikas is super important to the success of this club, and his pay will reflect as much. I guess we will find out how tight soon enough |

I have a lot of time for Nick Ritchie as a 3LW also. Heavy game, some skill there too. He'd fit nicely on a Pageau/Wahlstrom line - eichiefs9
I think it would work very well as a 3rd line. Toughness and skill. |

I dont think 4 per is reflective of an exceptional player, but rather a true 3C, who does it all. The difference between 3.25 and 4 per is a Michael Dal Colle......see ya MDC |

I dont think fair rears its head at the negiotiating table with a guy who would take a puck to the face and continue playing. Someones value is what someones willing to pay.
That "4th line" is the reason this isles team has had this much success without many elite names. |

If you are going to give 4 Mill to Casey good luck adding a much needed scoring forward. You cannot give 4th line players crazy contract during the Cap era.
It was Barry system and teaching the team real defense that led to the turnaround. |

Well yeah, but I’m suggesting 3.25 for 2 years. Staple is saying 4 for 4/5 years.
I wanna keep Casey, don’t get me wrong. But I also think players like Getzlaf, Bonino, Nosek and Bozak could do the same job for less coin than 4 years @ 4 per. |

We can agree to disagree, but my gut tells me they offer him 4 per and to me thats fair. Those kind of numbers dont sting as much when you dont have those albatross contracts on the books like Ladd, Hickey, Komorov etc. Casey is not a 4th line player, and thats where I think we disagree.
Nick Bonino makes 4 per and id say thats a fair market value comparison. |

Bonino makes 4 per. To be honest, and not to sound like a homer, but Id rather Cizikas than any of the above mentioned. |

True, but that was prior to the pandemic.
The coin and term that Stastny just agreed to is more reflective of the market today. |

Statsny signing for basically what Goodrow signed for is hilarious to me. That one probably works against Casey |

We've all watched hockey long enough to realize you gotta give to get. You cant ask a guy to lead every game, win every draw, block every shot, etc etc etc and then ask him to do you the favor and take less than fair market value. Not ideal to pay a guy 4 million on the 4th line, but that line really isnt the 4th line, so theres that. |

Now LeBrun saying they're getting Mikael Hakkarainen...who was a 5th round pick in 2018 and appears to be splitting time between the ECHL and AHL. So.... basically nothing |

One thing to watch here: there were rumblings Marc-Andre Fleury might choose to retire if traded from Vegas — for family reasons. Not certain how it will all play out. |
