Tarasenko looked decent in the playoffs and is said to be 100%.

I would expect him to put up around 25 goals in a full season. Maybe more with a solid center.

I really think we’re going to get our man tomorrow. Carolina won’t be able to match. I think he wants the money.

On Tarasenko - what would he really cost us? In my mind, Foote, Holtz, Mercer, and obviously Hughes, are untouchable, as far as prospects go. Jack, Nico, Bratt, Sharangovich, Smith, Graves, probably even Severson won’t be going back either.

Perhaps Kuokkanen? Zacha? Wood? Johnsson? Clarke? Stillman? Picks?

Wouldn’t mind Henrique in a 3rd line role. Him and Johnsson and Kuokkanen may be a good fit, assuming Hughes has a better winger than Kuokkanen. I feel like it makes sense to have a mix of more experience and youth on the same line, but whatever works. Henrique still has his legs, and brings decent leadership too.

I think it would be one of Johnsson or Boqvist and a 2nd or 3rd round pick. But there was some speculation this morning that theres a chance he may not waive his NTC to go to NJ

Canes looking to sign DeAngelo (yikes) so maybe a hint that Hamilton is hitting free agency tomorrow.

Ah I didn’t realize he had one. There’s still a chance though.

I’m really nervous about the prospect of trading for Tarasenko. He’s been a great player at times, I have no idea what his health is now, but what’s the point? He’s got two years left on his contract and the Devils aren’t a Tarasenko away from being contenders.

This rebuild has been slow and painful, but it does seem like things are slowly coming together and there’s a good crop of youngsters who are going to develop. If we can get Hamilton long-term, I really like the idea of having his presence and ability present as the Devils round the corner. But VT just doesn’t seem worth the gamble, especially when we’d probably have to give up a few pieces with legitimate value to get him.

Yeah still a chance for sure. The Blues have been rumored to be interested in Landeskog, Suter, Hoffman, ect so they need to open up his cap space to give them more flexibility. So i would be shocked if Tarasenko isnt traded tonight, or atleast in the morning tomorrow before free agency opens at noon

Bless them. And bless us. A move to help us now and the next several years. If no Tarasenko or Meier perhaps Saad would be the choice, though Colorado will have more space after losing one or both of Landy and Grubauer. Tatar and Granlund are also options for wing. Bonino maybe at center. There’s always Coleman, though we need a top 6 winger and I don’t think he’s the answer for 3rd line center. Savard, while not being an offensive D, would form quite the shutdown pair with Graves if we don’t get Dougie.

I like Saad but I'm worried about the type of contract he'd be able to command. Something in the 3-4 year range feels good to me but you never know with the GMs in the league who will dish out a 7 year contract like it's nothing.

Tarasenko’s value is to help Hughes progress, or even Hischier, and take pressure off Sharangovich, Kuokkanen, and if Holtz or Foote arrive this season or likely next. We can always trade him at next season’s deadline (assuming he’s healthy) if we’re not in contention. Depends what we’d have to give up for him. Otherwise, I’m good just signing Saad, Tatar, or Granlund without giving up an asset and likely having similar production.
I could imagine Saad having good chemistry with Hughes based on his experience with skilled players and still having speed.

Jones being bought out, following all the rumblings of a potential major trade between SJ and NJ followed by a very minor trade makes me think there was probably a much bigger deal being discussed that fell though.

Until he is actually sitting at a press conference under contract with NJ I'm not buying, or getting my hopes up, lol.

Just as a reminder, aside from all the free agent frenzy, offer sheets can be delivered today but not be accepted until tomorrow. The great white whale.....

I hope we get one, but just like every year it never happens. Or we get a garbage one like the Aho offer-sheet. Definitely some good candidates though, if i was a GM i would take a hard look into potentially offer-sheeting Pettersson, Fiala, or Svechnikov

If there’s no point in trading for tarasenko then there’s no point in signing Hamilton. One of them makes this team ok, both probably puts them into the playoffs. And that’s not even considering other players growth on the team.

I mean there’s similar players available like Tarasenko but we wouldn’t have to give up anything to get them- just give them a contract. So no point in losing assets if we can just sign someone similar, is what I mean. There’s no one remotely close to Hamilton available, and he’d be a game changer with us for many years.

I’m going to keep telling myself that e4 about preds and Hamilton is merely about talking and not likelihood that he signs there.

It would suck sssso much to lose him to freaking Hynes. We lose everything with Hynes!!

I mean tarasenko is only one year older than Hamilton, i know he’s had some injuries lately but he’s absolutely the best available offensive talent right now. So if he stayed healthy I don’t really see the problem, especially since we would be shipping out a 2nd round pick and a forward that will likely be poop anyway.

Once the clock strikes midnight tonight Carolina will lose the advantage of being able to give Hamilton the 8th year on his deal. So if a deal doesnt get done tonight, its looking good in regards to him atleast hitting free agency

Hamilton is better at his position than anyone currently in the Devils’ system projects to be. He’d be a long-term, stabilizing presence on d, and we wouldn’t have to give up anything to get him.
Tarasenko when healthy was a beast, but it’s been a few years now and who knows where he’s at. We’d have to give up pieces to get him (I don’t actually know what it would take, a 2 and a prospect would be one thing, but I don’t know that I’d want to lose someone like Bratt or Sharan to get him, and wouldn’t be shocked if that’s what St. Louis wants). And he’d hit free agency just as our young guys are starting to come into their own, so I’m not clear what overall value we’d end up getting from the trade. And I’m not confident saying we’re a playoff team with those two guys until I see what our goaltending looks like.
