It's pretty much the writing on the wall. This is a pre ordained move that puts both in the AHL to start the season. Now either could trump that with a really outstanding camp or pre-season but that's unlikely to happen. Do you remember our discussion on overcorrecting? - MJL
In a win now sense, the move seems pretty logical and risk free.
If York comes in and blows everybody's socks off, he'll still have a spot on the team, despite this knee-jerk veteran-focus that the team seems to be on right now. |

Not sure why people don't like the Yandle signing. It's a cheap deal and kind of insurance if you ask me. This is going to be a grueling schedule this year with the Olympic shutdown and squeezing 82 games in(hopefully). I've always been a believer that you need to go into a season with 8 competent defensemen. You know...injuries. |

i understand you cant have studs everywhere, but i just dont understand how in a non hard capped league, you can invest so much in the team and then trot that out there continuously. |

How’s the pens d shaping up so far. - Peter Richards
really not their problem in my opinion. its pricey and not good bang for the buck, but you can win with it if the forward ranks were properly manned.
it happens. |

The Yandle signing is just a huge win. Lost no assets. It was super cheap. Grabbed a solid veteran. Zamula and York are young. I liked York’s game and believe he is the real thing but this allows the kid to continue to grow while getting massive minutes in the AHL. This will not hurt the young guys development. It most likely will help it. I was happy with a kid getting a shot but the three pairs just got better.
This team is doing it right. They are one of the hot destinations right now. I remember just two weeks ago guys on here saying no one wants to come here and they have to over pay to get people to come here. Haha. They are turning down bigger offers to come to Philly. 🤣 |

I was thinking that too. It looks like yandle took a discount to come here. Tomorrow should be fun.

Yeah, let’s just rush York with ZERO backup plan. And if he struggles we can all complain that Chuck threw him to the sharks. York is a KID, he will have a shot at camp and certainly play some games this year. Some people’s posts here, good lord. - black_francis

At his peak Malkin was probably the most dominant player out of the last how many or so years. Problem is the floor wasnt as consistent. Hate him all you want, the guys body of work is about as stud as it gets. |

Even Sean Hannity! Advising people to take the vaccine - THE EVIL WITHIN
Thought I read recently that 84% of all new cases were in vaccinated people.
If they wanted to keep the virus from spreading we would be vaccinating those who cross the southern border. Instead, we arent. We arent even testing them all. |

What? Like we were just comfortable with Justin Braun getting Provorov minutes? Truth is Provorov is an all situations player and nobody gets Provorov minutes. |

So its OK for Adam Fox, Makar, Heiskanen and other young D to go right into NHL but we need to put York in the AHL without any real idea if he can handle the NHL or not?
Plain and simple there is no "one" developmental path that is optimal for every player. Its very possible that York can handle the pace and responsibility just like Fox did. He isnt just some kid coming out of juniors, he has played high visibility games with USNDT, major international tournaments and a couple years of college hockey.
The concept of overcooking may apply in some situations but not all. Its also possible it could stunt development as the player gets used to that specific pace and then needs to "readjust" once they get to the NHL and then all you hear is they may not be ready, when in fact they are just getting their legs under them.
IMO York should be provided ample time to determine fit and that may need to stretch past pre-season and into the first couple weeks of the season in real game time situations.

I'm not a believer that you can over cook a player in the AHL. I don't think going down to the AHL can hurt York as a player. I just think the idea of having a legit open competition for a roster spot is now not there for York.

No, I know what you mean about Ellis, he looks small out there to at 5' 10" 180lbs. It was just an impression I had watching the games, I was worried York was going to get hammered in the corner and bye-bye shoulder. Right now York is 20 years old, 5' 11" 175lbs. I think I would be more comfortable if he added 10lbs of muscle this off season. - jd250
Adding 10 lbs of muscle is ridiculously hard for anyone that's already in peak shape. |
