Don't think there's much out there and whit is out there is probably over-priced. - Isleshockeyman
I hear you, i feel like a part of me just wants confirmation that Lou can get it done as opposed to the days when the isles got shunned, after being the highest bidders, and then left to the trash heap of UFAs. Like the year they didnt get Drury and Gomez, and then wound up with like Comrie, Sim, Fedetenko, Guerin, and whoever else to try and field a team. |

Yep, pay way too much for under performance. - Isleshockeyman
If you have the Cap space and a star player is available and you can sign him fine. Otherwise I rather go with trades or shorter term deals if possible. If the Isles can get someone like Murray on a 2 year deal and Parise 1 fine. |

It can be frustrating but you give it time and then you realize you dogged a bullet missing out on a lot of these players. Lots of buyers remorse. |

Who are you trading though? Obviously uncle Leo & Hickey jump to the top of the list, but what value do they have? Are you trading Beau? Another starting player? Prospects? Picks?
The value pool isn't very deep. Bellows and Wally. Maybe Koivula. Aho/Bolduc? We don't have a whole lot of draft picks either. |

Agreed. Like a Vegas wedding. Sounded fine while drunk walking down the strip, then you wake up the next morning wondering what the hell happened, and how'd that battleship tattoo get on your back. |

A lot of buyers remorse for sure, but the time to swing for the fences is when you're in win now mode. The isles were never in win now mode under Snow, with his UNHEARD OF 12 year rebuild. I don't mind overspending now when they're (ECF two years in a row) close. |

Trades for the Isles is tough now. I meant I'd rather trade in general if possible and short term UFA deals. I cannot see a big trade from the Isles right now. Maybe they bring back Palms and sign someone for the 3rd line and hold tight until the trade deadline to see what they need and who is available? |

Garth never gave himself a chance with the lousy coaching and not wanting to trade any talent. The problem with UFA season is there is usually not a lot of great talent available to sign that will put you over the top. Landy was a long shot from the start. I'm not an NBA fan but they have shorter type contracts and they have a lot more value available during UFA season. |

Maybe we can trade for Leddy at a reasonable $5.5m? |

There's swinging for the fences and then there's making the right moves for the team. The Laffs are the perfect example of swinging for the fences and striking out. I'm all for making a couple moves to put us over the top, but we can't mortgage the future to do it. Especially if the move(s) don't work. |

If this were the NBA only 4 teams would have a shot at the cup, and all UFAs would be signing with those teams.

I dont think anyone suggests mortgaging the future, but the isles are in a position to take a short term risk. I.E Tarasenko (given the isles dr's green light the shoulder) |

That's because Snowdiot always fancied himself as the smartest person in the room. Chia actually did help him out a couple times and made him look good. |

Agreed. I'm just looking at some teams around the league and there's a few that have gone off the rails and aren't as competitive as they think they'll be.

Chia did his best to help Garth and Garth would still be GM if he hired one decent coach. This is still very much Garth's team in terms of players. |

The only cup the Leafs are hoisting is the presidents trophy. Way too top heavy, and zero upgrade on d and in net. The truth is Dubas was the wrong pick, and i'd argue they'd have been cup contenders (not just on paper), had Lou Lam been in charge still. I blame Shanahan, and hearing Dubas double down and say "we believe in our group" is EERILY similar to the crap we were force fed by Snow. You can believe in your group all you want, but when they fail yearly, now what?? |
