Gotta give to get. My hesitation is what else we include in the package though.

Strome and Schneider for Eichel…sign me up.

Schneider, Chytil, and two 1sts for Eichel…ehhhhh

- rangerdanger94

I would still do that trade IMO, Eichel is 24 at the biggest position of need for us and a top 10 talent in the league. It's not like we are trading for an over the hill star.

See this is where I don't agree, I think the injury is a blessing in disguise. If Eichel was 100% healthy no way we are getting him without trading players like Laf/Kakko plus Schneider.

If we could get him with someone like Schnedier leading the return package? Man that is a steal IMO

Despite the injury I am sure that is where the negotiations started anyway. You know that when Eichel talk started last summer that the #1 overall was probably the first demand AND most likely Kakko. Things have changed a lot.

Well it definitely won't be the first scenario. No where near enough. If Drury did that he'd be a genius.
- JRR1285

It would have to be somewhere in the middle of the scenarios I listed out for me to feel okay about it.

To get a player of Eichel’s caliber, you are going to have to give up a piece or 2 that will sting. It’s just…hopefully it’s just a couple pieces and not 3-4 that will hurt.

With that said, Brooks basically said if we get Eichel, there is zero chance we keep Zib. I haven’t been looking at the cap too much but is that true? We can’t afford to keep Zib next year in any scenario if we acquire Eichel?

I would want Eichel to have an Eichel -Zib 1-2 punch for the next several seasons.

Yea I guess that package isn’t that bad either now that I look at it again.

Yea I agree. This opportunity likely will never come around again, teams just don't trade Centers like this.

With the flat cap it looks pretty much impossible. Unless some of the players projecting to get big contracts don't perform as expected but then they have a whole other set of problems at that point.

Ive tried it out in AGM. It can be possible, but we cant do much more than what weve got and we have to throw Barron or any of the cheapies in. But if Zib really wants 10m its almost a certain no.

Zib is not a $10m per year player. He’s at $8m at max and that’s pushing it

No matter how you look at it by adding Eichel and attempting to retain Zib + pay Fox you have 4 double digit contracts on average. The odd players out here are Kreider/Trouba. Buying them out leaves the team with nagging cap issues for years.

Then you need to factor in Kakko and Lafreniere. Just counting the mentioned players, the team is very quickly approaching 60+ mil in salary without even trying within about 4 years? Unless the cap goes ballistic I don't see how this works at all.

Point is they're going to lose players and people are going to lose their minds at times.

this day is shaping up awesome. If they sign Danault, everyone will freak out. If they trade for Eichel, everyone will freak out. If they do nothing, everyone will freak out

That's the other thing, if the Rangers don't trade for Eichel they are most likely giving Zib 10 million a year.

It would suck to lose Schenider but if it meant we got Eichel I am running up and down the street naked

If I knew Eichel was healthy, I would be less apprehensive about trading Schneider. However as it stands, nope.
- aecliptic

The fact that Schneider played for Team Canada in the Worlds says he's more than just a prospect IMO. BIG mistake to let him go. Trade Lundqvist before him

I roughly ran the math on next free agency and the possibility of Zib resigned.

Maybe convince Kreider to waive NMC?

Its still not enough to resign LAF and Miller if they hit their stride.
