Kalynuk is a NHL player now and better than the other Jones... - fattybeef
There's a strong chance at least one youngster (not counting Stillman and C Jones are roughly the same age as Kalynuk) will be in the starting D pairs especially if de Haan is shipped out.
My pick would be Kalynuk. He's the real deal.
Mitchell and Beaudin would be better off playing top minutes and developing more in the AHL, at least to start the year. Learn from the Jokiharju and Boqvist trajectories. |

Kalynuk you ads out the seven, if deHaan stays.
McCabe - S Jones
C Jones - Murphy
de Haan - Stillman
I think it is better to let they Youngers get call ups but learn on the farm, and not be over their heads.

Agree Wiz. If de Haan is gone, though, and the Hawks don't sign one more free agent D-man, then Kalynuk is the likely youngster to grace the starting lineup. |

Even better he was on the ice. Teams fight to get over the boards when he is on the ice. - Elbows15
What are you talking about? You tried making a case that you actually knew who he was by saying he kept committing penalties and putting the hawks on the PP, which wasn’t true. |

Sure but why bring in players who are even worse at it? - Elbows15
Yeah, but he was middle of the road when he was a regular with Edmonton. i.e. 2017 to 2020 Oilers gave up 31 shot against per 60 minutes with him on the ice. Better than most of our players (Kampf, Carpenter, Anisimov, Toews, Saad) in that same span.
I am not a big fan of this guy, but as a tough guy who can play 4th line minutes, he shouldn't hurt us. |

He sucks. The guy can't get out of his own zone. The Hawks don't need more guys who bleed shots. Tho, in that bums case its more of a hemorrhage. and does it against 4th line competition.
Him and Carpenter are going to be a joy to watch together. - Elbows15
Carpy gives it all but I'd definitely like an upgrade over him with a little more offensive upside. Watching him and Kampf botch the occasional 2 on 1s or breakways on the PK was crushing. The minute they'd get free I knew they weren't going to score. Worse yet JC would put Carpy on the PP or Kane with Kampf at times. Best deterrent from that is not having them on the roster. |

The Hawks have lacked a strong identity in recent seasons. One overlooked theme is how much leadership / character they are brining in.
Seth Jones - Torts considered him a future captain
McCabe - wore an A in Buffalo
Johnson - Cooper calls him the "ultimate team player"
Flower - beloved by teammates
The roster has also become significantly more North American, whether by chance or design. |

I really question Bowman's logic on not qualifying Pius Suter.. At first I thought perhaps the reason behind not qualifying Suter was perhaps both sides wanted a long-term deal but that's clearly not the case... Looks like Bowman is just letting him walk which makes absolutely no sense to me. Even if Suter wasn't in the plans moving forward, Bowman could have still qualified him then traded his rights..smh - Savard2Secord
I believe it would have something to do with the arbitration rights. So, if Stan qualified him and suter decided to go to arbitration, they probably can't trade a player that is in arbitration, so he wouldn't be available to trade right now if Stan qualified him. |

Perhaps thought he was untradable if he won arbitration not worth the trouble or gamble. |

Just to take a look at what started last season with.
Debrincat - Strome - Kane
Kubalik - Suter - Pirri
Janmark - Wallmark - Shaw
Highmore - Kampf - Carpenter
Keith - Murphy
De Haan - Mitchell
Zadorov - Boqvist

No one needed to eat Seabrook at all. Its called LTIR. Bowman just doesn't want to deal with it. Sure didn't hamper TB at all. |

So 9 of the 12 forward will be new
at least 3 of the 6 D will be new
probably 1 of the 2 goalies would be new.
Rebuild, remodel, retrofit, whatever you want to call it, Stan sure turned over the roster.

He is not tough. He just is willing to get his ass kicked.
Being pinned in your own zone isn't going to help. He is a terrible player and they already had enough useless forwards without adding another one. |
