Theo, I don't think the Blackhawks COULD talk to Fleury before a trade, as it would be tampering, but you have to wondering if Vegas will add some pick if he doesn't play.

not that the Blackhawks would be using that money in the UFA market in goal, as NONE of them are an usignificant pgrade over MAF, or worth assets...

What's the story on this guy. Just a cheaper version of Zadorov? Only played 13 games for the Sabres last season. Injured I assume?

I read his wife/girlfriend is from the Chicago area so that makes sense of signing a prove it deal. Ideally he makes a great shutdown pair with Murphy but that’s just me trying to be positive.

I looked at Tyler Johnson's stats on cap friendly and noticed his production has fallen off slightly the past couple of seasons. Early in his career he was about at .65 PPG. The past two years he has been at .50 PPG and .40 PPG.

Just wondering if any of the analytics experts here have that fancy stat chart predicting what type of player he'll be in upcoming years.

He does and I talked to him yesterday when he was cutting the grass. Apparently the Hawks are trying to trade for Malkin.

Major knee surgery last February. ACL, MCL, meniscus. May not be ready for training camp.

Is Fleury's and his agent Allan Walsh's statement that he is contemplating retirement just a ploy to possibly get a contract extension? Something like, I'll report to camp for 2 more years at 5M?

It was just an observation. He seems game to go but ends up on his back a lot.

The Blackhawks in 2009 decided they were going to be a possession / speed team and were obviously ahead of the curve in that regard vs the rest of the NHL.

It seems like now they want to be the Big Bad Bruins or the Broad Street Bullys, A zig when everyone else is zagging.

The Hawks drafted slow giants and seem to be targeting physical players.

That's pretty low on my list in trying to determine if he'd be a useful player.

Regardless, Hagel could protect him then.

Johnson only played 13:40 TOI mainly on 3rd line. I could see scenarios where he plays in the top six, gets a little more ice time, with some PP time, and puts up 50 points. He is only 30 and still moves pretty t well.

Actually the guys they drafted are big but most of them are noted as being good skaters.

Good to have you back. I wasn't trying to discount your comment, it was an attempt at humor. But if the team can get a few more guys willing to use their body to "fight" for positioning, that is a good thing.

I think they are sincere about only wanting to play in Vegas or Pittsburgh. But time and a contract extension might change their minds. I just don’t see him walking away from $7mil. I could see plenty of different scenarios playing out. But I doubt there is any clarity right away. I can see this being a soap opera until near the start of training camp.

Don't think so. Money not an issue for him after a long time in the show. I think they shuffle him off to Pittsburgh. We'll see.

Not like I watch any of them but that seemed to be a recurring theme, big guys who were plus skaters.

Sounded like most of them weren’t being selected to contribute offensively but be more shut down types.

It would be nice to see the hawks pick up a first round pick in next year’s draft

Not sure he is worth a first at his age, but hopefully Pitt is desperate enough to cough one up. Seven mil is a lot to walk away from for Fleury so hopefully something gets done.

The big dmen the Hawks drafted will not be NHL ready for a couple of years. By that time Chara will be retired. I wonder if he would be capable and interested in coaching these guys. Remember early in his career he was quite awkward. He could certainly relate to them.
