I dont know a lot about Mrazek or goalies.
a few of the statsy folks like the bet. so what evs
Mike Kelly
@MikeKellyNHL
Mrazek only played 12 games last season but was great. 40 games in 2019-20, closer to average.
40 games in 2018-19, very solid.
Leafs were a top-10 team in expected goals against last season. Mrazek a good bet to perform well there alongside Campbell. |

I prefer Mrazek over Kuemper.
Still, quite a bit of AAV and 3y deal not great..
Could have done worse.

I guess we'll see what transpires but I woulda preferred Halak at 3 x 1 over Mrazek at 3.8 x 3. He could be an expensive back up if Campbell takes the reigns next year. - The Law
they will have 5.5 in 2 goalies. if they play 50-32 or 41-41
all the same

100%.
Why help a team that has Mcdavid and Dri? Unless they get fair value in return (frank) off. Its 400K in space every year for the next 8 years. - Santo_44
Well that's just not true.
It's 400k in space for seven years. Then you get a cap hit of 5 million+ in the eighth year.
An 8 year deal is really only marginally better in totality than a 7 year deal. Which is probably why EDM balked at the high cost.

So goaltending market is a tad higher than we thought.
Veteran D is 10x higher than we thought.
Who is getting a pay cut here? |

thinking about it, Leafs did the right thing.
they would be doing Edm a big favor to save them millions cap over 8 years.
pay up or (frank) off - senstroll
At first I was thinking they should have taken the pick.
After a bit I came around to your thoughts too. Nobody does Dubas favours so why should he? Its $400,000 a year if rumored. That is 3.2 million over 8 years. Thats a decent bottom 6 guy or better back up goalie. |

Current accounting:
~ 5.5 in space with 10F, 6D and 2 'tenders signed.
~1M for that vet D leaves about 4.5 for 2 forwards.
Bunting at ~1.5? .....somebody at 3M. |

I was hoping for a touch less AAV but whatever. Its giving some insurance if Campbell sucks and walks next year or something. |

Mikheyev, Kerfoot, Dermott being shopped.
Hard to imagine not seeing 2/3 of those traded today or tomorrow. |

I just mean if Campbell plays like last year and stays healthy he likely takes the reigns. If so that makes next offseason a little tough with a Mrazek at 3.8.
I'd expect that this means Mrazek will get every opportunity to take the reigns given the paycheque. |

I don't love the Mrazek deal - I guess middling goalies are more expensive than I thought.
It does give some cost certainty going forward though. Campbell only had 1 year left.

I am surprised by some of the AAVs. They seem high regardless of flat cap.
In other news, I find it funny every year that all this poop leaks when its supposed to be vaulted and noone can talk until 12 noon.
Contracts take 5 mins. |

Well there is a trade market.
This is also Dubas telling Campbell you've done well but you haven't started 50 games ever. |
