I've never seen a GM consisently overpay like Dubas, is actually absurd

Not a Dubas fan but this is a good deal.

Nah- he's sh!t, at least Dubas didn't pay $5.5 Million for him for a zillion years like Edmonton and LA.

I have a feeling the stupid tax is going up for a few teams after this season
(let us compare stupidity)

Leafs stupid tax
Phil Kessel $1.2 M one more year

Oilers stupid tax
Lucic $750K 2 more years
Neal $1.914M 4 more years
Sekera $1.5M 2 more years

I wonder if the buy-outs $$$ get escrowed as well as their regular pay check.

Per the athletic

There isn’t a ton of offensive pop to Kampf’s game, but he ticks a ton of boxes for any team in the market for a fourth-line centre.

Kampf and the Blackhawks are still engaged in contract talks and could come to an agreement, according to The Athletic’s Scott Powers. If the Czech-born defensive pivot hits the open market Wednesday, however, expect there to be a fair number of suitors of his services.

The 26-year-old pivot is a reliable faceoff winner, led all Blackhawks forwards in penalty killing ice time by over 40 minutes this past season and while his offensive production was non-existent — just one goal in 56 games played in 2021 — he’s still a decent bet to be a 10-goal fourth-line centre, capable of logging a ton of penalty killing minutes and giving any teams star players 10 to 11 five-on-five minutes of relatively worry-free rest per game.

There’s value in that, at the right price. And in a free-agent market with very few centre options, Kampf should have a decent market.

He was just not qualified. What says we need to give you 1.5m for two years? You can't even bury that. It just seems like another overpay

I agree, but how did be earn that ? It seems like wasted cap. We already have a 4th line, so they are trying to make him our 3rd line centre ?

Apparently a lot of teams were after him, I'm assuming that equates to rising costs.

If he can replace Kerfoot I'm not too mad. He'd have to score more than 1 goal to do that though. 🤦🏻‍♂️

They can go over 10% of the cap and are said to be shopping Kerfoot, Mikheyev and Dermott.

True

Be interesting to see what comes out those possible trades.

He would have been given a raise based on the QO.

He went to the market and this was his market.

based off what I have read from him it is not an overpay. He offers things beyond HDB and CHI fans seem upset to see him go.

High end players don't take less, flat cap or not that wasn't why this happened. Completely on Dubas. Had Lou negotiated those it would have been less IMO

https://gavingroup.ca/nhl-tax-calculator/

Point is making more after tax than Marner

Check out this cool little calculator that shows the comparative taxes for two teams. Toronto about 53% vs Tampa at about 36%

Lou would have ultimately got Marner signed for less (more than likely) but it clearly would have been at the expense of allowing Marner to sit significant time.

If Dubas had handled that negotiation that way, you can bet your ass a large majority of this board would have been rampaging about how arrogant Dubas is to allow one of their young stars to sit out... Again... And how he's (frank)ing the team over when they should be competing.

Marner should be the one to blame for that contract, he held his hometown team over a barrel for $$$

Players take less all the time to play in Florida and now you combine that with a flat cap. What is it that some of you guys don’t understand. Maybe give Stamkos a call and he can explain it better than I can.
