How's FA been for our lovely, cash strapped Leafs???

4 or 5 scraps....at least one can fight.

All in all, exactly what I expected from Dubas, nothing to win.

Team is definitely worse than last year but hey at least some of you are still thinking: Stanley Cup here we come!!!

Gonna be AWESOME!

Point is making more after tax than Marner

Check out this cool little calculator that shows the comparative taxes for two teams. Toronto about 53% vs Tampa at about 36%

Point signs for longer and less money than Mitch

Do you realize that 9.5 mill in Florida is more then 11.5 in Ontario after taxes?

High end players don't take less, flat cap or not that wasn't why this happened. Completely on Dubas. Had Lou negotiated those it would have been less IMO

and the taxes are being saved by playing in TB

Please tell me how tax savings aren't legitimate when signing a contract.

Sounds like if you had it your way they would move Matthews/Marner/Tavares and Nylander for a bunch of 3rd liners because "that's what wins games".

Dubas already has his stars. Why would he go shopping for other stars and hope they don't fail in the playoffs too?

I don't know why anyone expected much from the leafs today after Dubas doubled down on his core guys.

Honestly, it feels like people around here can't see the forest through the trees on this team and it's players. They have Matthews and Tavares.

Sure be upset about Point doing less for longer in Tampa but let's not forget how good these guys are.

I can’t imagine hating a gm so much that I would deliberately be obtuse to try and make something fit my narrative.

I love the false argument people make when it comes to people making millions.

This isn't a fu3king union paycheck. Shiit these guys get paid in every different state or province they play in and our taxed at that states/prov tax rate...did you know that?

There are a whole litany of other tax/accounting practices that are soooo completely different than that of the working man.

The tax right offs/incentives/corp tax avoidance/creative banking practices ie: CVLI and other tax loop holes...it doesn't even matter to these guys.

$9.5M in Florida works out to about $6M net

My only question is why the (frank) am I still living and working in Canada and not Florida.

Perhaps it's the endorsement revenue I can rake here.

Yes I'm aware of how they get paid and some of the inner workings of accounting. It's rather involved and aside from taxes theres other things players look for.

Example, TSN just spoke with Coleman and he says him and his family are from Texas and would rather a place like that instead of busy Tampa. Theres a bunch of variables for every player.

Seems like we signed a cheaper Riley Nash type for 1.5 million.

If he can play the PK while helping to shut down the opposing teams offense, seems like a fine deal to me.
