What a shocking day for unsuspecting Maple Leaf fans.

Such an expeditious decline; division champ three months ago; considered unlikely to make the playoffs today. Ownership (particularly Rogers) who rely heavily on Leafs viewers to drive revenue across a myriad of departments and platforms cannot be impressed with this turn of events.

I shall be keeping a close eye on my email come mid-January, cautiously anticipating an incoming CV from a recently unemployed Kyle Dubas.

Was that rule about teams not winning the 1st overall pick more than once in 3 years or some poop not put in place?

I could've sworn I read something about that.

Or am I completely making this up?

It was on the table at some point for sure.

Campbell is gonna be Bruce Campbell. But the major reason will Mitch Marner and company. Haters can only do two things: nothing, and like it.

They should've implemented it. I think it's a very good rule.

I think they did. Starts 2022. Can't win the draft lottery more than twice in a 5 year period.

But it is a clean slate in 2022. So previous lottery wins don't count. Only lottery wins 2022 onwards.

Agreed.

But this is coming from a fan of a team who's last first overall was Doug Wickenheiser.

Ignore that guy. He's a compulsive liar. Used to troll the Red Wings blog claiming to be a former Red Wings player who now runs a scouting agency. And I'm Elvis Presley.

Good. I'm glad they implemented it but it should've been in place starting this season.

Bruins have 1M in cap space, our starting G is Ulmark and our 2C is Coyle.

You don't see any problems here?

- Nasty_Duck

So where's Nick Ritchie going is what I really want to know. 🤔

Dubas and his talk about prioritizing a forward who brings a different element better be all over that.

Hmmm maybe. Buffalo's tanking works. Red Wings tanking never works.

Does it really, though?

I mean, they're excellent at being garbage, but so far that's it.

It didn't work for McDavid. But they successfully tanked for Dahlin and Power.

Oh, OK. I thought you meant overall it worked for the franchise.

In that case, I guess they also failed in the Ekblad tank, too.

That being said, I wouldn't call this past season tanking, really. They just sucked worse than everyone. Being good was their plan, I'm pretty sure.

Brian Burke was always pushing for the rule change. Maybe when he became GM again in Pittsburgh they passed it.

In summary

An updated list of players #Leafs acquired today:

- G Petr Mrazek (3yr, $11.4M) - Yeesh thought it would come cheaper.
- F Michael Bunting (2yr, $1.9M) - Good deal all day. Bury him if he sucks
- F Kurtis Gabriel (1yr, $750K) - No idea who this is.
- F David Kampf (2yr, $3M) - I like it if he is a good defensive centre.
- F Michael Amadio (1yr, $750K) No idea again.
- D Alex Biega - No idea really.
- D Carl Dahlstrom - I should watch more of other teams.
- F Josh Ho-Sang (PTO) - Probably doesn't go anywhere.

He's signing with Bruins for a hometown discount. I did mention they still have 1M.

Sabres signed Aaron Dell. That's quite the goalie tandem. Craig Anderson/Aaron Dell.
