Kurvers played over a season for us.

Kordic made contributions at a time when we were playing in the Chuck Norris Division.

Foligno played 7 regular season games and 4 playoff games, and made absolutely no difference.

Kurver for 1st round pick that turned into HOF neidermayer is worse than foligno for Columbus Blue Jackets (from TOR) — Corson Ceulemans, D

So ,we lose Foligno and a First rounder.
Our boy GM is killing us!
What I find so very unacceptable is how Dubas and Shanahan carry on as if nothing is wrong!
While other GM's make good deals to improve their team, we sign a list of very long shots of players most of us have never heard of. As a season ticket-holder of the most expense seats in the NHL I vehemently object to having to watch on the job training of AHL players.

Looking back throughout Leafs history, has there ever been a worse trade than the one for Foligno?
- Atomic Wedgie

Several trades worse than this one. Here are three

Furthest one back - and the one that initiated the Ballard years was:
to Detroit Gary Unger, Pete Stemkowski, Frank Mahovlich and the rights to Carl Brewer
to Leafs Norm Ulman, Floyd Smith, Paul Henderson and Doug Barrie

To New Jersey (1st round pick 2nd overall) - Scott Niedermeyer
To Leafs Tom Kurvers (IMO this was the worst trade by Leafs ever)

To Montreal : Russ Courtnall
To Leafs John Kordic, 6th round pick

Just three there are more. The trade to get Foligno was awful, especially since he shat the bed, but there are several worse IMO

I think they only have 800g's left no?
Or is it more?
they'll have to shed some salary if so.

Including Kessel's $1.2m, it's $2.2m. Assuming that right now you have 7D including Sandin & Liljegren (Sandin is the only waiver exempt defenseman and I expect him in the top-6) - we'll lose Liljegren if we waive him to the Marlies and 12F (including the new acquisitions of Kampf & Bunting, but not Amadio and Gabriel) which would assume Brooks is the 4C, we have $2.24m in space. If we sign someone to replace one of those roles, we can make room up to around $3m if we demote the replaced player to the Marlies. The only forward that we have that is waivers exempt is Robertson, and that projection does not include him on the roster.

They can do that and still be under the cap. I'm with you. Bring in some physicality. He might not be good, but if he plays physical he'll be a rockstar in Toronto playing for this team.

Your question was "has there ever been a worse trade than the one for Foligno?"

Not how many games did the players participate in, or how many seasons. The return of Kurvers - an ok but certainly not a top pairing D-man (played for a little more than a season for the Leafs) for a player that was the star defenseman on 4 cup winning teams was made by Count Floyd. Terrible Hockey player, Terrible GM and worse human being (killed two people driving drunk)

It was his fault that he made little effort and made no contribution. As Wedgie stated to give Perry a couple of shots after what happened to JT was stupid. A much more effective way to even the score would have been to go after the top player on the Habs. Maybe frowned upon, but it would have been smarter and more effective.

Rask for Raycroft ....is also worse then the Foligno trade unless this kid they drafted becomes an Allstar.

The better question may be have the Leafs ever gotten so little out of such a big trade. It's not the worst ever but it may be the worst in terms of what they received - Zilch.

Yes it was a worse trade, as was the Kessel deal, not in the same category as the Kurvers deal by the captain of the NHL's all muderer team.

For me, I'm being patient. Next year we press go and trade the farm. We're still in "exceeding expectations" phase. Hand and maybe a couple of other band aids that make us feel good is all I want this year.

Unless there's a crazy deal for a pitcher with control.

You could also include the "zilch" return on the Marleau plus a first deal. Although the mistake happened when he was given the extra year on the contract.

Then the habs go after another top player on the leafs.
I wasnt a fan of what foligno did, but it close out any retribution and any possible further stupid plays. By all accounts, it got the players back in the game and by the end of the 1st the leafs were flying again.
He was also great with the leafs the first 5 games, had several points and fit in well.
