That's insane. Kerfoot can't do what Hyman did. Every physical exchange with Kerfoot results in Kerfoot being absolutely pasted or destroyed. I'm honestly surprised he isn't injured all the time. If you compiled a list of the best or hardest hits against Leaf players last year, Kerfoot would feature in 90% of them. No forward in the league is hit more than Kerfoot.

Hits Taken / 60 (Forwards more than 500 minutes played):

1. Kerfoot 8.75
2. Hagel 8.41
3. Bastian 8.12
4. Hyman 7.93
5. Lewis 7.93

As I say, it's not just the frequency that he is hit - it's his inability to reduce the impact of the hits. Maybe it's for the best that he's spineless - it helps him avoid injury!

As insane as it sounds, I think he was specifically referring to Kerfoot when he said he hopes that the replacement for Hyman is filled internally

My problem is Dubas overpaid.

1st rounder for a 3rd liner on an expiring contract?

Bruins paid less for Hall.

- Atomic Wedgie

Agree completely that Dubas overpaid, I am fairly confident that Columbus was sitting on another similar offer. Hall wasn't the missing piece. Leaf Power play did suck, but there was simply no pushback when Habs took liberties with Matthews and Marner. Dubas was hoping for the 2019-20 version of Foligno when he pummeled the Leafs, he got the Pina Colada and Margarita 2021 version

The LWs I'd be looking into would be Saad (probably too much), Bertuzzi, olofsson and Ritchie. Ideally get Ritchie and one other and have something like olofsson, bunting and Ritchie on the left side. Have to move out kerfoot and Dermott (maybe something else?) to make it work.
Could work if Kampf can play 3C and have Brooks and Spezza split 4C.
Of Kampf struggles at 3c we have another issue lol

- harps43

I want Ritchie, for all the reasons Dubas listed about needing to prioritize a forward who brings a different element. As duck pointed out he's the guy who's going to throw that tempo/game changing hit... And this lineup is void of that aside from perhaps Muzzin who's typically in the infirmary that time of year.

And I'm happy to pay 3-4 million on a deal with some term if that's what it takes to get him. He's 24 and from the GTA and he's only going to get better, he can chip in enough goals to hold a top 6 spot for now.

And plus, you take him for Boston, and it's about time we win something there.

I have zero problem having him play with JT absolutely mowing the other team down and smacking in the odd goal. Perhaps someone else in the lineup even has their balls drop as a result.

Hmmmm...doesn't this mean that Kerfoot doesn't shy away?

Not sure why he gets hate at all considering he is one of the few guys on the Leafs to show up and hustle every shift....whether he gets hit or not.

I think a lot of that is he doesn’t seem to be producing much. He also wears that stigma of coming in replacing Kadri too.

I agree with going for Ritchie, not sure he's a $3 to 4 million player though.

Ritchie could be a good pick up. Bunting looks to have a bit of a physical edge too.

Now if we lock Engvall away cattle prod him and feed him inly raw meat so he goes all rawr too…

He does shy away. Here's the thing - I want to like Kerfoot. I don't, but I want to. Technically I want to like every Leaf, but I've made a more concerted effort with Kerfoot because I had hoped he would be the 3rd line centre we needed who wasn't getting suspended in the playoffs. I like his speed and his vision on the ice, so I am still thinking he has offensive upside - just not as a 3C.

You're right that he is pretty f'n gung-ho at the start of the game, but after he gets pasted, he's pretty gun shy for most of the rest of the game. It's, I believe, why he's targeted - it's effective. It's not dissimilar from our other lightning rods here. Nylander and Marner are harder to hit - if they were easier to hit, teams would also target them more, because once they've been nailed a couple of times, they also shy away from contact situations.

If I could move out his $3.5m salary for a winger who had a physical presence, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
