Honest question. Are Anderson and Dell really the tandem the Sabres are going with?

I mean a 40 year old and a guy who is an AHL goalie at best?

Taxi squad?

I mean I get there was slim pickings out there but this can’t be it can it?

- Stripes77

yup...best ufa goalies went to playoff teams and they're not giving up any assets to address goaltending...

and like someone said, sabreland was up in arms when the sabres didn't claim dell off of waivers...now they've got him...

Keep him, get him healthy and playing, shop him next off-season before July 1st.
- zdp1189

So you think his health is the reason the return is not up to expectations?

I was just pondering this while walking through my place of employment. This can't be it, right? These two were obvious knee-jerk reactions to standing there at the end of the day with only their d!cks in their hands.

I wonder if they did it (signed these two) to make it look as if they're not desperate, while talking trade w other teams.

I think Eichel is getting traded to the Rangers and one of the Ranger goaltenders is going to be part of the trade.

No, Dell has a two way contract. They will get a starting goalie
- Slump Buster

Okay that makes sense then.

I still don’t like the idea of giving up assets to get a goalie but at this point they’re going to have to

What level of asset would you be ok with the Sabres trading for a goaltender?

No more than a 4th round pick? A C prospect?

Since Dell has a 2 way contract they have a ton of flexibility. That said, I think they are going to have to pony up and pay the price to get somebody that is currently on someone else's roster. Doesn't Dallas still have a ton of them?

I preferred overpaying Ullmark but not if he asked for 6x6. Woof.

Why do they have to?

Anderson 30 games, Dell 30 games, UPL 22 games due to one of the 2 being injured?

the price for ullmark to stay in buffalo was reportedly (just on gr) 6yrs. $6m per...he signed in boston for 4yrs./$20m...

that shows how much kagm had his back against the wall when it came to addressing the goalie situation

Piecing together the tea leaves, Sabres offered 3 years at $5M per. The extra year Boston offered swayed Linus.

People’s anger with the Sabres this off-season is comical to me. We all knew this was coming, we all knew it had to be done and we had to move on from Reinhart, Risto, and Eichel. Adams, this off-season for me, has done mostly everything right, the reinhart trade was a little disappointing but he’s an RFA, so I didn’t expect a ton. People need to stop wallowing in the past and support the new core of young kids that don’t need to deal with fans anger at the owners. I’m hopeful for the next couple of seasons and I believe the Sabres will gain the respect of the league soon enough.

It's 10, soon to be 11 years of ineptness in the front office/owners suite...coupled with frustration that Eichel hasn't been traded for the reported haul we were lead to believe was coming...it creates a dark cloud.
Once Jack is moved for a reasonable return, the fanbase will come around.
For a period of time, lol.

I think the danger in that is that this team might be on the edge of a cliff like it was last year. A decent goalie will get them some games. I fear that at least one of those goalies won't be serviceable.

What's a reasonable return though? As you said, Sabres fans have been sold a bill of goods that a haul is coming back for Jack. I think the notion of getting four quality assets is absurd at this point. The guy has a hurt neck and one Elite season in 6 years. He also has a bad reputation at this point.
I think everybody had better accustom themselves to Jack eichel being on the Buffalo Sabres this season and being just as disgruntled as ever. My question is how do you leave the captaincy on this malcontent.

an appropriate offer from the team...and i don't think it was "the extra year" that swayed him...

hmmmm...perennial playoff team in boston or buffalo, a team that's about to break the record for playoff futility

While I think the Eichel trade will bring back a goaltender, wouldn't a decent goaltender getting them some games be counterintuitive to their goal for next season?

This is where I’m at. When Ullmark got hurt you could see it in the Sabres eyes. They were already defeated. I know they’re going to be bad, but give the team a shot at winning with at least some average goaltending.

It’s the most important position to have at least average play in.

That's a fair point, as Boston probably could've offered the exact same deal and Linus may have taken it, but Linus was the only one who actually really liked Buffalo and did want to stay.

Adams is going to take the best offer he can get and trade him.

It absolutely would, and I think they will get a decent one. I really don't think they are going to sabotage the roster like Murray did. That's what I don't get about all of the panic yesterday - how many decent goalies moved yesterday? Or decent players, for that matter.

I would think that the best offer MUST include a top center prospect. Isn't that the hangup with all of these teams?
