Holy hell. A star player signed a long term deal as a UFA with us? Am I dreaming?

I just want everybody to go check Arizona's roster for next season. It's a true tank masterpiece.

Per Pierre LeBrun, the Devils made a strong pitch to Brandon Saad today, but he has other offers on the table as well and will take some time to sift through it all
- vlongo4419

not surprising he has a lot of offers. makes sense Fitz is changing course with how dumb this Tarasenko nonsense is becoming.

Feel bad for Chychrun and Keller. That team looks like what an expansion team would look like if every team could protect all of their assets.

With how many teams didn't get what they hoped for today I have a feeling Saad is going to get a 7 year deal for too many $$$. I like the player but I think the contract will be brutal wherever he winds up.

They sign big extensions because the team looks like they are building up young talent to become a playoff team then they sell off everything all at once. Feel bad for them because they are in for a lot of losing for a long time.

They got Guenther in the draft, but it's not even like they have a fantastic prospect pool to show for all the garbage they've taken on.

Jeremy Rutherford, the Blues beat writer, just put out an article talking about how it's now time to trade Tarasenko and how his value is just sinking every day by hanging onto him because Armstrong miscalculated the situation and wanted way too much in return. Went on to say that the potential market for Tarasenko is dwindling and may be down to only 2 teams, Carolina and NJ.

So it looks like Carolina and NJ are in on both Saad and Tarasenko. Go steal him Fitz.

I’m all for Tarasenko as long as it isn’t too much of a price, but I’d be willing to give up a 2nd and/or 3rd to obtain him. He’s an unknown at this point and we traded the same for Mirco Mueller for crying out loud. Im willing to take the risk, I know some people aren’t but he’s only 30 and if the shoulder holds up, he’d give a world of confidence to either Jack or Nico. I’d be thrilled with Saad too, but if today is any indication, he will be overpaid somewhere and I’d almost rather give our younger kids a chance to prove themselves. With Tarasenko and maybe one other piece I feel like we are close to the playoffs, not a guarantee by any stretch. Absolutely over the moon we were able to lure Dougie Hamilton here, I know money ended up being the deciding factor but we’ve offered way above market value to people before and they didn’t bite. I think we have a serious 2-3 year window after this year to chase down lord Stanley because Dougie literally just replaced subbans 9 so we’ve got some more to play with. I know we’ve got jack and some others to pay, but we are in great shape. If we can add Tarasenko at a reasonable price, or saad, we are twice as good as we were last year I think. Couple established vets would do wonders for these kids. Let’s Effing Go Devils!!!!!!!!

Does this not signal a little bit of a changing of the guard for us though!? I realize he took the most money, but everybody always talks about nobody wants to go there, we can’t land the big free agents? I grew up with the 3 cup winning team and legit live for devils hockey even though I live in Syracuse New York. I go to buffalo to see them and I go to Newark to see them. I’m damn well proud of today even if we don’t make any more moves. I saw Martin brodeur play when I was 6 years old and that was the only reason I loved the devils. My father was a die hard New York rangers fan, but I saw one Martin brodeur glove save and I was hooked. We are on the right path, we are building our towards something, you can nitpick all you want but today was a step forward, a changing of the guard, a move towards the glory days. I saw them win 3, no matter how young I was, and I’m hoping for another 3. But all I can say is I’m so franking pumped for what we are building towards and I’m not one of those Debbie downers. I drove 5 hours from Syracuse to the devils game, sadly I thought it was last year but had to have been the year before because it drove 5 hours with my father to watch the devils get a embarrassed by the rangers and was one of the people chanting fire Hynes. Drove 5 hours and left before the start of the 3rd period because how it embarrassing it was. Drove basically 10 hours for 1:30 or maybe 2:00 worth of hockey, couldn’t even bare the last period. I’ll end now, but I just wanna say I finally have hope, we’re moving in a direction instead of being stagnant, we are trying, and we are somewhat desirable because of it. I’ve never been this excited, this pumped, this ready for a year and I hope you all are too. I see the devils play in Buffalo every year cuz Syracuse is so close, but I just may see our boys play in jersey more than once a year now. Let’s Franking Go Devils. Ps. May have to get my new Dougie Hamilton jersey now knowing I can have it for at least 4-5 years, anybody looking to buy a Taylor hall jersey? Let’s go boys, let’s go devils, we are there/almost there

Sorr again boys but I read this blog religiously without commenting, I would assume you’re all mostly from near or around jersey. Love the dedication and honest evaluations. I effing love the Devils and effing love hockey and don’t get to talk much of it around my parts. I know we are doomed and we draft all busts but the future is looking up my dudes!!!! 2 Hughes, 1 Holtz, and Mercer and Hamilton cup Baby!!! F the rags, f the flyers, we gettin back to the glory days boys!

I just can’t believe Philly got Jones. They need a solid steady goalie more than just about anyone.. and they pickup the most inconsistent guy. Halak or Reimer would’ve been infinitely better options.
- MartysBetter88

Philly usually gets goalies and breaks them. This one was already broken.

I know lines may not be optimal and long shot of Saad or tarasenko

Zacha Nico Bratt (zacha and Bratt seemed to gel together and create offense)
Sharagoalvic Hughes Saad/tarasenko
Kouk boqvist Foote
Wood McLeod ?

Think holtz and mercer may not be ready

Hamilton graves
Smith severson
Siegenthaler subban

Blackwood
Bernier

Will be good to see how they come out with a full training camp under ruff

If we get a top 6 forward who can put the puck in the net and Hughes takes another step and Nico is healthy I think we can compete for the playoffs

Much more optimistic

As a Devils fan, I’ve never really felt this way before. We pulled the top free agent. A very talented player in his prime just chose to commit to New Jersey. And yeah we had to pay a lot to get him and it’s a bit of a gamble, but it wasn’t outrageously high, and it just feels damn good to take that gamble.
There must be more on the way with that Butcher move, and I’m curious to see what forwards we’ll be going after. But even without anything else, just look at this roster compared to three months ago. The Devils are on the (frank)ing upswing and it is actually exciting to think about what they can do. They’ve got me feeling dangerously close to optimistic.

I would be ok for 3 maybe 4 years

28 and he can put the puck in the net which is something we need

As long as it isn't a massive overpay we will be ok

Agree. 4 years is the absolute most I would want Saad for, but i would prefer 3. Once you get to 5+ you're getting into the terrority where it's most likely going to be a contract that ages really poorly, like Neal/Lucic/Eriksson/ect

I definitely prefer Tarasenko or Tatar over Saad

problem is that if GMs are giving Hyman and Coleman 6+ year deals somebody is going to do the same for Saad. GMs out here don't give a (frank) about regression.
