Meyers was a good prospect and showed flashes of having very “it” like characteristics.

You have to give up things to get things.

But let’s make no mistake here Meyers is no Ellis and there’s no guarantee he’ll ever reach that level. Ellis at this point is a much more talented and superior player. And in the role they're going to ask him to play I think vastly upgrades not just the D but almost all facets of the game.

Personally I don’t even understand why people have a problem with this trade. Having to shed ghost the way we did that’s disappointing and poor judgement with that contract (there’s a few other contracts I see that are dangerously close to that bad too)
But players for players when you get the better return. Silly to be upset.

For the Meyers defenders, and worried about Ellis' injury history. Meyers hasnt been a book of health either in his 2 short seasons hes played, he has missed plenty of time, wouldnt be surprised if it was more than ellis missed through the same amount of games.

Not sure if the bashing on ellis is because you dont want a vet, or you really think meyers will be pronger or maybe both. But for the next couple years ellis wil be the better player, and maybe for the next 5 years if Meyers cant turn it around. But we still have a lot of prosepects on this team, so the giving away our future is total BS. We are better now,and till have our prospects.

100 %. Myers was brutal last year. His problem was between his ears. I m not sure his hockey sense is the issue…because last years biggest problem was he would make the same mistakes, over and over…and over. He’s shown he can provide some decent play, but hasn’t been consistent, like a lot of young d men, but I’m not overly
worried the Flyers traded away a player that all of a sudden will put it all together…..the bottom line is we’ve added two legit top 4 d men, Ellis included and we are better. We traded Myers and a soft perimeter 2nd over all pick that may not qualify as a bust but surely can be viewed as a horrible mistake in the pick it self.
The Flyers are still chalk full of young decent players and it’s nice to see them attempt to fix what was a poop show last year.

I don't think anyone is comparing future Myers to current Ellis. Those who don't like it are complaining about the philosophy as much as the specific two players.

To be a serious contender in the salary cap age, you pretty much have to draft and develop your players (and draft as high as possible, I should add). You don't know who will be a star and who not. You have to cling to them all, nurture them, be patient with them.

If you start throwing away players after 1 bad season. and replace them the first time things go south, you will end up as the Flyers before Hextall: paper tigers, playoff losers, with barren cupboards. Neither future nor present.

But at this point, you all crave a good old show like a junkie craves a hit. Winning the cup has got nothing to do with it. So, have at it.

All flyers players are old or suck. Players they trade away will get better and ones they get will not but might get worse

Is that what they did? Got rid of a guy that had one bad year? Please, that’s not how things work. The Flyers traded two guys with un realized potential that have had some ups and downs for an allstar level RH d man…..and I will take playoff hockey almost every year along with being an entertaining hard working physical team over that crap we’ve watched almost every year since Hextall took over.
You seem more concerned with the process rather then the results of the process.

Tell me you honestly think Nolan patrick and Phil meyers are essential to winning a Stanley cup. Or at least more capable of helping do so than Ryan Ellis…

And of course I want them to win a cup. What else would I want them to do 🤔

Poise with the puck. Lesser competition. Athletic. …… why bring up people that don’t matter. The two I quoted were coaches assessment. Yes you have av in there. But the gm quotes are cliche. Chucks was when they asked him about signing Myers and if he planned on starting him him with provie. Or something. Context.

Nothing about defending his ability to read defensive plays. The comments I posted were from his coaches as well. Again never said he wasn’t or would t be an nhl defender. Nothing again praises his hockey iq. Poise with the puck is just not panicking under pressure.

- Peter Richards

They're praising his hockey IQ... you're just refusing to see it.

Poise is making the right reads and plays under pressure, which require... you guessed it, hockey sense. AV said he not only had poise offensively, but also defensively.

Also, GMs, teammates and coaches seem to have had an extremely high opinion of him, saying he's "dominant" and possibly an "elite defenseman"... pray tell how does one dominate and become elite w/o any hockey sense? Simple answer is you don't, so if he had any big red flags, they wouldn't have gushed about him so effusively.

And you just ignored the part where Old McDonald said the kid had excellent vision (a component of hockey sense) and was really hard to play against defensively. The guy didn't have much of an NHL career, but he's played near 1000 pro games.

No offense man, but you asked me to go through the trouble of digging up stuff to support my POV. Yet you've brought nothing but weird allusions to "athleticism" (like somehow that precludes having hockey sense or something). Your entire viewpoint is steeped in recency bias and some weird fantasy that he was flawed all along.

Didn’t dismiss was just pointing it out. But yes. Gm comments are 99 percent of the time cliche. Paraphrase yes look up I said what they said didn’t change the context. Next time I’ll do the direct quote. One was from nbc sports so go for it. Nothing praises his hockey sense either.

Look up what he worked on or the criticisms. Wasnt moving the puck or his athletic ability. It was d reads and consistency.

- Peter Richards

There's a reason why you didn't post it yourself. The comments there by Fletcher were not cliches. You somehow think that not finding a post that directly praises his hockey sense means that his hockey sense was questioned?

Not signed by Calgary.
- Peter Richards

And for the last freakin' time... Calgary was DEVELOPMENT CAMP. Myers had many invites to NHL main camps, but chose the Flyers because they expressed the most interest in him. He was signed right out of that camp.

Myers quote on not being drafted “I have to go back and work harder.” Why. On what.

With what was post earlier I disagree.

If he has all the athletic tools and this great hockey sense then I guess why wasn’t he better. In the NHl sooner. Not drafted. Not signed by Calgary. Just curious.

Myers quote on not being drafted “I have to go back and work harder.” Why. On what.

- Peter Richards

He was a player that had played 71 NHL games coming into last season. That's still raw for an NHL defenseman. Now you've resorted to hyperbole and an actual cliche.

There hasn't been any bashing of Ellis. The Pronger comment is absurd. Having more prospects in line doesn't mean that they didn't give up part of the future. Calling that BS is also absurd. Again, if just being better is what you want then I think you got your wish.

First it's phantom quotes and now it's phantom questions. You still can't grasp that players aren't signed in development camps and that after attending an NHL camp, Myers was signed. Get a grip on that fundamental truth and then maybe we can make some more progress.

Wow. The flat cap doesn’t seem to be effecting these contracts.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed star defenceman Zach Werenski to a six-year contract extension carrying an average annual value of $9.583 million.

I’ve been very high on Myers for a long time. This year was definitely a disappointment. However, I think that was a result of condensed schedule, COVID outbreak throughout locker room, and expecting a lot out of him with all of the above. Still think he’ll be a solid player in this league…What do you guys think of Ellis? Honestly, I haven’t seen enough of him…Could he be a Kimmo type that provides a stabilizing presence to help the young players (I.e. Provy, sanheim, York, zamula) take the next step in their career?

And I want to add…if so…what value do you put on that type of experience for the young players to lean on (future consideration)? Just spitballing. I’m not totally in Chuck’s corner this offseason, but I’m definitely not stepping out of the ring. Hope to see a winning season out of this team.

He's better than Jones, and Jones got $9.5M, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
