Wow. The flat cap doesn’t seem to be effecting these contracts.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed star defenceman Zach Werenski to a six-year contract extension carrying an average annual value of $9.583 million. - Djapana
Well the cap is still flat, so if all the stars are pulling in 9M+ it just means that mid-tier players are gonna have to take less. |

Their chances probably hinge more on MAF not retiring than Toews coming back. They were almost as trash defensively as the Flyers last season. |

They traded Kieth & Seabrook too…should be interesting. I respect your opinion..reposting from last page:
I’ve been very high on Myers for a long time. This year was definitely a disappointment. However, I think that was a result of condensed schedule, COVID outbreak throughout locker room, and expecting a lot out of him with all of the above. Still think he’ll be a solid player in this league…What do you guys think of Ellis? Honestly, I haven’t seen enough of him…Could he be a Kimmo type that provides a stabilizing presence to help the young players (I.e. Provy, sanheim, York, zamula) take the next step in their career?
And I want to add…if so…what value do you put on that type of experience for the young players to lean on (future consideration)? Just spitballing. I’m not totally in Chuck’s corner this offseason, but I’m definitely not stepping out of the ring. Hope to see a winning season out of this team. |

Has anybody heard anything on Nick Ritchie getting some offers out there ? I can't seem to find any rumors / info. on it. I'm really hoping Yzerman can snag him. |

And for the last freakin' time... Calgary was DEVELOPMENT CAMP. Myers had many invites to NHL main camps, but chose the Flyers because they expressed the most interest in him. He was signed right out of that camp.
What any draft-age kid needs to work on... everything? - Tomahawk
We can disagree. We will see what he does over the next couple of years. |

First it's phantom quotes and now it's phantom questions. You still can't grasp that players aren't signed in development camps and that after attending an NHL camp, Myers was signed. Get a grip on that fundamental truth and then maybe we can make some more progress. - MJL
So take one question off the list. |

They still look like a team in flux, like the Flyers. Not sure why they got rid of Pius. He seemed like a pretty solid guy. They're gonna miss Zadorov too... losing him kinda offsets some of the benefit of adding Jones. And no idea why they bent over backwards to help Tampa out with Johnson. Pretty funny how Seabs benefits from tax-free sit-at-home money now.
I like Ellis. He's a great get. Just wish they didn't have to ship Myers out to do it. But I totally understand why Nashville would insist on it. I just think that kind of move is premature at this point. Would have been more appropriate to grab a shorter term stop gap at 1RD until we know what York and Myers are. And if Dave Scott had a problem with that I'd tell him to go (frank) himself. |

Amen. That would've been the smart play for this team.

Is that what they did? Got rid of a guy that had one bad year? Please, that’s not how things work. The Flyers traded two guys with un realized potential that have had some ups and downs for an allstar level RH d man…..and I will take playoff hockey almost every year along with being an entertaining hard working physical team over that crap we’ve watched almost every year since Hextall took over.
You seem more concerned with the process rather then the results of the process. - landros 2

No, it is the results of the process I am conditioning on.
The process has produced a bunch of young players each one of whom has a question mark associated with him: (TK, Sanheim, Provorov, Hart, Bee, Allison, Lindblom). Sometimes the question marks are from too small a sample (Allison, Bee). Sometimes the question marks are if the player has plateaued to a good but not not good enough level (Provorov, TK), sometimes the questions are whether the regression is temporary or shows more structural flaws (Hart, TK) and so on.
It is sad we don't have a bona fide superstar or two after building up the farm for a few years, but in life there are no guarantees that following a path will lead to success. If it doesn't, you don't say: well, I tried it for x years, and it didn't work, so I am not gonna do it any more.

Tell me you honestly think Nolan patrick and Phil meyers are essential to winning a Stanley cup. Or at least more capable of helping do so than Ryan Ellis…
And of course I want them to win a cup. What else would I want them to do 🤔 - Jup16
The cost is not just giving up those 2. Its also the first and a 2nd. AND the years of added contracts with players who are older down the line.
Each risk in and of itself may appear insignificant. But together they add up.
I never said you don't want to win the cup. But I think you want the allure of cheap false hope more. |
