I picture Khiara as the Jamal Meyers of this years team. - LAHawk
That is a pretty good comparison. I've never been much of a Khaira fan for Edmonton, but he is pretty solid physically and can protect the puck. I don't think he will ever be more than 4th line offensively and I think he needs to be slotted to his 10-12 minutes of icetime in that role. I think he is generally considered a good teammate, willing to drop the gloves and fight for his team. |

Good post here, too. You summarized it well what Strome's situation is. Yes, Strome needs to crap or get off the pot but Colliton also needs to put him in a situation to succeed. - Theo Fox
Theo, would you mind expanding your thought on exactly what that position to succeed would be?
Remember something else about #17 - at the time Toews announced he could not play last year, Strome was unsigned and I really believe Bowman did not want to extend him a contract, especially for 2 years. But he had no choice, and it became even worse when Dach got hurt. |

About what he deserves on this deal. Better deal than signing Hymen for 7 years at 5.5M and some other handed out yesterday. |

It is a pretty fair deal, since he will probably be productive a while yet. |

Saad with the blows 5 years $4.5 AAV - LAHawk
Thank you very much! I said months ago he won't get $5 he should jump at it if offered before the eoy. My $3.5 posts were just being funny. |

Sure thing. Strome is the type of player who seems to have a defined role as a center in an offensive role, i.e. scoring line. Moving him to wing doesn't suit him. Colliton also scratched him down the final stretch.
Strome needs to run with his opportunities, too, though so he needs to be accountable and prove his worth. |

2012-2013 Team USA Under 20 Gold Medal Team featured...
Captain Jake McCabe
Asst Captain Seth Jones
And current Dman Connor Murphy
Is it simply coincidence that once the connection between the Hawks, the USA program, that once Jones became available that HE became the target as he has been scouted for years by them?
And the wait and see if Boqvist can ever play a full season healthy and/or reach 17min a night and not be sheltered was scrapped- once this trio (all about to hit their prime) became available?
All winners. All leaders. All....kind or 'similar' (not the SAME, crybabies, so keep up) but all rather same to the roles of...
Keith - Jones
Seabrook- Murphy
Hjarll - McCabe
While the cup Hawks all developed in CHI system, those 3 developed in the USA system - and are now reunited and all about to hit thier prime years.
If anything now, the clock should be ticking on JC
And Tortella (Team USA guy) and he has evolved through the years....is available - PatShart
If he is recovered from the injury, Chicago fans will be very pleasantly surprised by Jake McCabe. He is a young mature Dman, will use the body, log good minutes and is effective in his own zone. Unfortuantely for him he was stuck in that Buffalo wasteland playing under new coaches every couple of years.
And at the salary, I'd much rather have him than Ryan Suter or Leddy or paying Herman Munster Z what he was asking for on a new deal. .

I agree with where Strome has to be slotted, but even without Toews, wouldn't Borgstrom need to be slotted the same? or do you go with 3 scoring lines and hope you have a basher line line Vegas does?

Its about what I expected him to get on this deal considering his production and smart GMs were no longer paying for potential.
He will do what he always does. Scored 20-25 goals/ 40-50 points and be a possession monster.
Ideally 4 years would have been my max given his age but the 5th year is worth it to sign him. |

McCabe will be worth his cap hit IF he can stay healthy. That is the only concern with McCabe.
Since it seems important, McCabe will also stand up for his teammates. To be clear, I don't dismiss that aspect at all. I just prefer it being a team wide thing instead of it falling to one or two players. |

The Hawks arguably have four players wasting cap space, Strome, Connelly, De Haan, and Carpenter, about $12M. Three of these players will be gone by end of season, if not sooner. If De Haan is healthy(big if), then I would keep him around until TDL and make a call then, Carpenter makes $1M(non issue), Strome should not be hard to move, so the only challenge is Connolly and he can be bought out next year if need be. Fleury’s $7M also comes off the books at end of season, if not sooner, so that’s $19M to sign their RFA’s or new UFA’s, for those worried about the cap, the Hawks are in a good place. |

I called it. Weird intuition yesterday. I need to buy some of them lotto tickets now.
Speaking of which, went to the Grand Victoria last night and put 5 bucks on the Hawks to win the Cup and 5 to win the West. Bets are downstairs so can't do the odds but if we win it all I get 305 back and get I think 125 back if we win the West. That was 10 dollars not well spent. |

Yes that's true about Borgstrom's M.O. too and why it may (eventually) spell the end to Strome's time in Chicago. Keep Strome for now if needed for center depth insurance in case Toews is constantly in and out of the lineup due to health but sooner or later decisions need to be made who to retain.
Dach is pretty much a lock but I'm also not opposed to your proposition that he shift to wing.
Then it boils down to Strome or Borgstrom.
Toews is a given until he says he's not, i.e. he goes on LTIR or decides to retire.
I really like Kurashev as an option as well. Underrated but a natural pivot who plays and thinks like one. Defensively wired, wicked shot, and willing to play in the tough areas so that may be well suited for 3C. |

Its reported that the Hawks' brass likes Kurashev as well. I listened to the Friedman podcast about the Jones trade and if I recall correctly, the Hawks wouldn't throw Kurashev into the deal. Not sure of the accuracy but its out there.

Theo i think its time to move on from Strome. See what teams need a center or willing to take a chance on strome. Ottawa buffalo rangers and see what return hawks could get.

Is like your crying when a 1st round pick isnt really a first round pick if it's the Hawks....
You're boring.
There are a lot of people excited about some of the moves the Hawks made
Wiz, who follows prospects, wrote specifically why Jones is a great add. Many around the NHL know why Jones is a really good addition in talent.
And there is the the connection these 3 have in team USA development program that can excite people
I honestly dont care what you think after this post. All you have done for days is whine. Its old. Boring. Exhausting to read. No one cares.✌
To the ones that do care - it's a pretty good/interesting trio on the backend. I would expect Murphy extension this year and the backend core is set with those 3 - and moving pieces around them - PatShart
👍🏻...me myself am pretty pumped to see how the backend comes together, looking like a strength now compared to this time last year. |

I'm not a big fight guy, but I hope having McCabe and Khiara keep the gloves on guys like Toews and Dinky. It was kinda embarrassing having ADB as the one guy willing to drop the gloves when those circumstances arose.

Or when the whole Tampa team went after Murphy for his hit on Cernak, and he had to defend himself all by his lonesome.
That might of been when Stan said we need to change the complexion of this team next year. |
