Kopitar is about to be 34 years old. He has a 1-2 year window

Danault and Eichel would be there for 5 years

LA has the cleanest cap situation of any team were negotiating with. They have Kopitar at 10, Danault at 5.5, Brown at 5.8, Arvidsson at 4.2, and Iafallo at 4.0

That’s a cheap forward group without Eichel and Brown is a UFA after this year

The Sabres could take any of Quick, Maatta, Brown back in cap dumps for 1 season.

They’d still be my betting favorite, and as 89 and my buddy have said they are constantly circling the Sabres

It was rumoured a few weeks ago that Sabres were looking to get another pick in the top 10 of the draft. Anyone have insight into who specifically they were hoping to be able to draft?

Iafallo, Maata, and Quick all gotta come back in that trade for sure. Gabe Vilardi would definitely have to be a piece. I could see it. Would be a massive deal when its all done.

I could then see the Kings trying to get Khudobin from the Stars.

Rob Blake is also refusing to give up Byfield.

So unless KAGM stops overplaying his hand the wagon will just keep on circling.

And if that is the best kind of return they're going to get for Eichel, what then?
- kingcong39

Then i say keep him
We’ve got 4years to potentially get a better offer before we get into a position where we’ve just gotta take the best offer available

And idc if the situation is a possible distraction
WE AREN’T GOING TO BE GOOD THIS YEAR ANYWAYS- so what’s it matter?

Here’s my personal wish list of goals for the Sabres the next couple years:
1- get a good return for Eichel, if that means we have to wait a year or 2- then fine
2- continue to develop the young talent we’ve had & continue to acquire
3- pick high in these next 2 drafts, to acquire some high end talent we’re losing with Jack & Sam

Which is why I want KA to hold....

You can't say that all the trade partners were able to get through other trades or FA their plan at 1C, or at least a 1C of Eichel's caliber.

If you're not getting the value you want, wait.

Because people are impatient, lol.

You know how many refreshes of TSN that could be from now until next year?

Right, sure he has an NMC that kicks in beyond this year.

But that's pretty simple.

"Jack, you want out and team X is the only one that is giving the offer we need for you. Do you want to play there or here?"

He's not going to just mail it in if he has to play. He'll be trying to put up as many points as possible to increase his trade value.

I’m assuming Adams’ job is safe for the next
2-3years (at least though)
How many other GMs can say that?
Hopefully Blake (or whoever) breaks before Adams does

I don't imagine the Sharks in the running for Eichel...ie to include Eklund then.

Just make him the Aaron Rodgers deal:

Show up and play this year, put up 95 points and we'll trade you at the draft

What happens if Eichel waits then to have the surgery ?

That’s what I would do if I were him.

Wait, wait, wait, oh my NMC starts July 1st, 2022 🤔

Yeah the situation is net is definitely not good. I see some players who could definitely help, however.

Bozak and Zajac could help stabilize the team down the middle. Donato and Heinen are two cheap, young-er fowards out there. Ryan Murray and Jordie Benn could be solid adds on D.

Kind of hard to fill other holes until you see if some of those holes are filled by the Eichel trade.

Fans impatience is NOT a good reason to “sell low” on Eichel though

Sorry fans…. but nothing the Sabres can reasonably do in the next 2-3years is gonna make this team good in that time frame

More suffering ahead, whether Jack is here or not

I’m not worried about the NMC

"Jack, you want out and team X is the only one that is giving the offer we need for you. Do you want to play there or here?"

It’s not the same situation as with Hall bc we have Jack under contract for 4 more years once his NMC kicks in

I do get the impact on the culture of the locker room if you have a malcontent.

But lowering your ask I think is worse. You can have him in the locker room and establish that these are the behavioral expectations or we will use punitive measure X.

If he chooses to just get the surgery without following the arbitration process he's in clear violation of his contract and the Sabres could REALLY have a field day with that.
