Just saw that. At least it’s news. Obviously the best player to wear the 7 since Paul Martin. Always liked Martin when he was in his prime with us.. just couldn’t justify paying that contract he got from Pitt. 33 is meh but ok. 45 is such a goalie number in my brain and is perfect for veteran Bernier.
So weird how the mind makes connections and has feelings about numbers lol - MartysBetter88
The only 45's to play for NJ were Sami Vats and Paul 'who?' Thompson.
The best franchise #7 was Guy Charron who centered for the Kansas City Scouts both years they existed. Paul Martin is the only really relevant one since then.
33 is a mixed bag of not much but shout out to Reid Simpson and Zdeno Ciger who are my favorite 33s for New Jersey. Ciger was a confusing yet unforgettable name from the Devils before they were good and Reid was outstanding at punching people in the face and put up 268 PIMS for the River Rats when they won the Calder in 1995. He spent parts of 4 season with the big club and was entertaining as (frank)! Sorta a pre Cam Janssen Cam Janssen. |

Gotta figure a Tarasenko trade comes soon-ish. After just re-signing Sanford for 2M, the Blues only have 1.5M in cap space and still need to re-sign Robert Thomas. No idea if that's even enough space to sign him, but either way it gives them zero flexibility going forward without a move. |

I'd take it with a grain of salt because im not sure legit he is, but there's a Slovakian reporter stating that Tomas Tatar is expected to sign with the Devils |

No slander here! I would love Tatar, and actually preferred him over Saad! I've been saying since free agency opened that hes being underrated and whoever signs him might be getting a steal. I just don't trust the source the tweet came from, so we'll see!
If it turns out to be true, then 3 years is ideal. But i can stomach 4 years depending on the AAV |

Oh I hear you. Waiting for something legit/official.
Anyone know if the Chinese knockoff devils jerseys are any good. Gonna need another Tatar jersey. |

Bring forth the Tatar!
If Blues were wanting one of the golden 3 (Foote, Mercer, Holtz), or one of the long-name boys (Sharangovich/Kuokkanen), then it makes sense for us to not bother. We don’t know how good those 5 will be and I’d much rather just sign Tatar for too 6 support and see what the kids look like this year and next, than give one away for Tarasenko in a non-contending year.
If we do get Tatar, 3rd or 4th line center will be the final piece. Maybe Boqvist is that piece. |

Sharangovich has agreed to a new contract, expected to be 2 years at 2M AAV according to Corey Masisak.
EDIT: This is now confirmed. 2x2 for Yeezy. Great deal again from Fitzy, and i assume that Kuoks should come in slightly under that |

Kinda wish Nico did a short deal like this.. but perhaps better to overpay based on potential than to risk losing a good player in 2 years. |

I'm totally fine giving Nico the contract we did, its going to be a steal in the last 4 or so years. I'm hoping we do the same thing with Jack, but i doubt that happens. He'll probably want to bet on himself on a bridge deal |

Not sure why you poop on Nico all the time. He's had some freak injuries, it's not like he hasn't been productive when he plays. We are also barely above the floor right now anyway. Somebody has to get paid. |

I don’t think I do. I poop on that contract because it was based on hopes and dreams and expectations rather than performance. I’m aware of the advanced stats. I’m aware he was a kid. I’m also aware Taylor Hall carried him. I love the guy and hope makes the last 4 years of that gift well worth it, but we paid a 21yr old big money and big term for what he showed us with 55pt seasons. Do we do that with every or any other player? No, cuz it’s crazy and can land you in cap hell if the player stays at the level they were at when you paid them instead of progressing to what you hoped they’d become. The concern is if he remains a 55pt center that is eating 4 more million we’d rather have in cap space in the latter half of that contract.
We paid him based on an IF and my mild concern is also based on an IF. |

When its a player of Nico's caliber and cornerstone of a franchise then yes, yes you should. Because its a benefit in the long run more often than not. The same thing should be done with Jack as well. The idea is that you hope the contract becomes a steal like a MacKinnon, Pasta, ect, BUT if the player stagnates and stays at the same level instead of progressing to where you expected him to be its a still a decent deal and not a boat anchor. Thats what Nicos contract is. It will either be a fairly average deal or a steal. |

we just signed a 9mil player and barely went above the cap floor. If you think we'll be in cap hell because of Hischier I don't think you look at our cap situation at all.
Also, you don't think you poop on him and proceed to poop on him. why not be happy that we have a young two-way centerman who is still developing his game who has elite potential rather than female dog about his contract that has no impact on anything right now. It's just so pointless to complain about his contract because it's not like we'd be spending that money somewhere else if he wasn't getting paid. Why do you even care. |

Ok I get it. You misinterpret me not loving the contract based on where he was when he signed it and where he’s been since, regardless of injuries, to me poopting on him. I like him and think he’s a good player. I got giddy like a little girl when I got his autograph on my jersey lol. I don’t remember seeing a contract like this from the Devils before. I even care because if the rest of the players actually develop and we sign who we need to, and we end up being against the cap in a few years, and we’re paying 7.25 for a 50pt 3rd line captain, I tend to not find that a favorable outcome. Hamilton is fine because he’s a proven top player that provides benefits in terms of team performance as well as player development- which will help future team performance. Nico’s deal, just 1.75 less, was given to him before he got to that point, in hopes he would progress to that point. He’s obviously young and has potential so there’s a good chance he’ll get there. But it’s a risk that I don’t love taking and am not used to taking.
A necessary risk? Maybe. It would of course suck to see Nico leave after a very successful bridge deal. So we can’t risk that because there’s only so often you pick 1st overall. We’ll see what route Hughes takes. I like them both and hope they pan out. I don’t love the situation though I understand it may have been the best option.
Jack may get the same treatment, so I hope, and have some confidence, that he’ll show us more of a 7.25 player than what Nico did. |
