I am strictly saying Dodgers appear to have gotten a better deal, and widened the gap on the Jays. - jribout
Some people take that as complaining or not liking the trade.
They dont understand, you can like the trade but also believe it was a heavy haul.
Martin is believed to not have the power now, plus it looks like the Jays have other mid fielders they think can do as well.
Should be a fun next 40 days or so. |

Going into the deadline, Berrios was called the best controllable arm on the market. I don’t know how the deal for two months of scherzer is better. |

That Syndergaard+ for RA Richardey trade still stings. - Leafs43
And I believe the catcher that was moved out is pretty good. |

Owners of US teams can write off depreciation of player contracts and gain huge tax losses/benefits even if they’re making big money. They do just fine. Amazing article.

Well yes - owners are allowed to expense things that they spent money on.
The horror.

I'm not happy with losing Martin as he sounds like pretty close to a sure thing to be at least a decent player.
I thought I had read that he can play some OF too. Probably could have shifted him to 3B as well.
Guess Shatkins weren't as high on him and that was the price. Oh wellz. - mjones242
I think it means that the Jays front office has faith in Groshans |

I think the Dodgers trade was good, and I think the Jays trade was just as good. Austin Martin is a fantastic prospect, but Berrios gives us another legit starting pitcher.

I don’t hate the trade. Just not sure I like it. But Jays had to do something. |

Guess so. I like Martin a bit more but that could just be shiny new toy syndrome. 🤷

I didn’t say expenses I said depreciation. It’s fine to get a tax benefit as machinery in a factory ages and loses value. Being able to depreciate the value of a player’s contract is a pure tax scam that they lobbied Congress to get and is worth billions for the Billionaire owners. They generate tax losses they can transfer to their other businesses even when their teams are making money. |
