The NBA dwarfs the NHL in revenue though, not really a fair comparison if we're just talking fans/viewership.
Leafs still reign supreme in Canada. - gravyface
But I said Leafs most watched in GTA. Value of franchise doesn’t really care where the value comes from. |

Rielly is a top pairing defenseman; Tkachuk is a winger. That should be straight up. Have you not looked around at what people are paying for D? Werenski just signed for 9.5M x 6 and while he's arguably better than Rielly, he also got to play with Seth Jones. - gravyface
Dubas should be trying to resign Rielly at a team friendly number right now. If he isn't resigning this offseason, he needs to be traded. We can't let Rielly walk for nothing. |

With the numbers being thrown around to defenseman right now...
"Team friendly" appears to be 8 million x 8 years.
I'm starting to buy into the idea of letting him go.

Rielly is great and all but he has too many holes in his game to warrant that kind of money. And you're right, that's what his type of player is gonna see on the open market.
Trade him. |

If that's the case, then they need to explore moving him now. If we can get a return similar to what CBJ got for Jones, that would be ideal. Hell, if Romanov is truly on the block, I'd even consider moving him to Montreal. |

He has frustrated me on the powerplay to no end, but his overall game has improved in leaps and bounds over the last couple of years. He was solid at 5v5 in the playoffs this year.
I'd like to see him re-signed if he's truly going to be team-friendly and pass the PP1 baton over to Sandin. |

Who the fu3k is this one? - underhill14
He's the guy that might be preventing Nick Robertson from making the team, if the last few Marlies games of the year are anything to go on.
He played on the Pete's with NR and SDA too IIRC. |

It’s great that we get a good return for him. Going to cost to bring someone in. Trade him if you have a plan to replace him. Sandin can’t play those minutes yet. The idea of someone walking at the end of their contract is not the only or the biggest factor is the trade hurts the team. |

I don't think he is either.
The issue, as always, is we will have a hell of a time replacing him if he is traded.
Basically pray Sandin can take a massive step forward - or pay out the behind for a similar player.
Losing Rielly is a lot worse than losing Hyman or JVR or Andersen or Bozak. Hard to bounce back from that loss.

The Raps have a long way to go to supplant the Leafs as the dominant sports team. Frankly, I doubt they will ever come close. |

Agreed.
But I think Dubas is going to hold onto him this season at this point and potentially let him walk.
No way I'd sign him for any more than 6.5-7M. |

we can't afford to give him a raise, so replacing him is going to have to happen. will be easier to replace him if we get assets back in a trade than letting him walk for nothing and having to give up assets to eventually replace him or getting hosed with bad Ufa signing next summer.
one of two things are going to happen. we lose him for nothing or sign him to high cap hit with long term and regret it soon after. the proactive approach is the best bet imo.
at some point Dubas has to think beyond just getting by season to season and give the future and long term plans of this team some consideration |

Certainly not. Next season though? I think this team has legs (and hopefully some arms!). |

I believe I saw some stats tracker that had the most popular teams in Canada as:
Jays
Raps
Leafs
Habs
Basketball is very very popular in Canada and around the world, with the amount of immigrants in Toronto and Canada, its popularity is continually rising within those groups.
The raps really arent that far off from the Leafs. |

this team looks great.
they have to be ready to spend and move out assets. They really need to improve the starting 5 and bullpen...but thats a yearly thing.
their line up and bats are pretty much set. |
