Kovalev was on the ice for 3/4s of the game, so it does make a little sense.......

The proof is on the pudding...bolts lost in 4 straight to CBJ when they were pusses..when they added toughness...b2b champions. We have the skill they had, maybe even more when it all comes together, now we have the braun. Look the (frank) out NHL

Doing research on hits and penalty minutes, I discovered a shocking fact:

Rangers 1994 Stanly Cup winning team Penalty Mins/Season:

1) Beukeboom

2) ???

3) Kocur

4) Graves

Can you guess who was number 2???
Answer provided in 15 mins

Congrats to all that guessed Alexei Kovalev!

I myself thought for sure it would have been Messier or even Kypreos.

I won't deny I used this on a player my first year coaching. Kid was one of my top skilled players on the JV team I coached but liked to take long shifts. I got to the point where I finally said (frank) it and after 2.5mins he tried to come off I told him no keep going. This happened a few more times as he was gassed. The bench was dying laughing and finally he got around the 5min mark or so and there was a whistle in the play. He came to the bench and said yeah I get it. He never took a long shift again for me ha.

The reality is reeves will only dress for the caps and isles game. It will be fun to watch him toy with Wilson and Martin. I honestly think this team is more balanced then last year. Clearly the plan the last 3 years wasn’t perfect as their record shows
- nyrangers2

I agree. The rangers have been getting pushed around for years and no one did much about it. I’m fine with Reaves. Martin knocked Trouba out of game down the stretch and Wilson is a pos. I just want to see Wilson get his f ass kicked

That is awesome.

I was at that Kovalev long shift game and remember noticing it live. Turned to friend and was like "has Kovalev been on for half the period."

That was great. Say what you want about Keenan, but probably the funniest thing a coach ever did.

I'm glad you are well Pete. Doing good, just real busy the last year with renovating the house and having more responsibility at my job.

Yep...that’s all it means 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Have you ever watched a playoff game?

- Slimtj100

Yes I have. Also noticed that both of the teams in the finals had losing records when winning the hits column. Funny enough every team that got swept in 4 games won the hits in every single one of them.

Would everyone be happy if Barzal was our 2nd line center?

I've said it a few times already, but Strome has almost exact same stats the past few years .

Is having Zib, Strome , Chytil/Goodrow, Rooney/Baron a bad thing for the next few years at center? Seems to me that yr has plenty of centers...no?

Well done!! I've tried to do that with a couple guys on my men's league teams!!

I'm the exact opposite. They kept telling me I had to stay out longer!
I said, "Hey man. I try real hard and I'm in real bad shape!"

That's because they were out skilled and were chasing the play. Hopefully, NYR can carry the play and have that added toughness.

It’s still the faceoffs for me more than anything. Goodrow is our best one now. I can live with another year of Strome if I have too. But faceoffs could rear their ugly head again

I think hits, like any other stat, needs context. If you have 30 hits in a game and 25 of them come in your defensive zone, you are losing that game. If you have 30 hits and 25 are hits below the opponents goal line while forechecking, that means you likely hemmed the opponent in their zone and probably wore out the defense. There's a good change you're winning that game. Saying lots of hits are bad is just as incomplete a statement as sating lots of hits are good

Having a coach like Gallant, who gets the most out of his players might be the thing to increase the FO%. We are only talking about winning a couple more per game per center.

Agree with your sentiment that Strome is a good center and our obsession with finding his replacement is a little overblown and rushed, although I do think faceoffs are an issue that need to be addressed to a certain degree at some point in the lineup.

All that being said I think the comparison to Barzal is a tough one. The stats may be similar but Strome is not the electric player that teams build a gameplan around like Barzal is. Strome scores those points in Zib's shadow and mostly with Panarin by his side. He's damn good at it, but if he saw the attention that Barzal sees I don't think the stats would be all that close

Another thing no one really mentions regarding these moves is, these are Gallant type players. He’s allowed to have his kind of guy if he’s the HC isn’t he? Which also says to me they may want to wait out a big trade involving prospects because they haven’t played under Gallant yet. Like Chytil for example. I feel like maybe seeing what he is under him is the best way to go about it instead of moving him. Eichel can wait, which could the plan all along

I truly believe that JD and Gortan were fired because they didn’t have the same vision that this kind of infusion needed to be done. Maybe they would have done it slowly over time, but Drury just got it all out of the way quickly

according to Frank Seravalli, Georgiev didn't officially ask for a trade, but has told management he's "open to it" because apparently he's not exactly beloved by his teammates?
