If we are gonna freak over losing 3rd picks, then people need meds. This is not a big deal holy (frank)

Nobody is freaking out over the 3rd round pick, at least nobody with some common sense, just the obvious control that Dolan and Sather have, which is bad for the organization.

You have your view, I have mine. Didn't say you have to agree with me. If it was for a fifth, that word likely would not have been used.

2 Respectful questions Jan...
First why the irrational hatred of Reaves? It has to be more than the 3rd round pick, if I'm not mistaken you had more than one of those. Can't be the term...1 year. Can't be the money. I felt the same as you when we got him but we gave up a 1rst and a decent rookie bottom 6 C on an ELC for him, and he changed my mind in about a week. I hate that we didn't get him back, he absolutely owns Wilson and has for years.

Second, I'm too old school to follow the analytics, but you posted some for Reaves this year that weren't pretty and I'm curious...what did they look like when he played for Gallant?(who I'm also jealous as hell you grabbed).

Yea. "freaking out" seems to be unnecessary. We all have our thoughts about a trade or signing. Instant reaction, then rational ones. They are all opinions. They are like bumholes, everyone has one and sometimes they stink.

I am curious to see how all these moves play out. Hopefully they can gel and the Rangers are a much tougher team to play against. Though that starts with the mental as well.

From previous blog:

Look, we have sat around now for weeks debating:

WHAT IS DRURY'S PLAN FOR THE RANGERS?

Well, now we know the answer! Everyone here may not like it, but its his PLAN and nobody can accuse him of only going halfway. We are going to be a big, tough, nasty team. You hit our skill players, we will drill 2 of yours.

We have had too much skill and not enough sandpaper for YEARS! It has gotten us NOWHERE in the playoffs. Now the pendulum has swung the other way. Lets see how it plays out. This is a team that is being constructed for a long run into the playoffs.

When we get another center ( fingers crossed ), then Gallant will have his team.
The cost of Buch and a 3rd round pick is NOT really that substantial. This might just work!!

I hope you are right. Plus, as you all should already know, if I am proven wrong, I will admit that is the case.

It's an overpayment in terms of assets. I don't think it's a worthwhile expenditure even with more than one third round pick. They got a fourth for Howden, trade that back. Buch only netted Blais and a 2, so Reaves is worth a 3?

The numbers kind of show it's not irrational. He played well for Gallant in 2017-18, that was four years ago. he now is 35, not like he is just 29 without any tread on his tires.

I hope to be proven wrong. If he is a deterrent and that creates space for the skill players, great. But not a price I would have paid and further crowds the bottom six and said who I would have preferred them to try and add.

Jan ---

You and I have disagreed a few times in the past, and we have always kept it respectful.
I just wish others would do the same --- we need to play nice in this sandbox...

Not picking on you Jan, but this microscopic analysis of every move he makes is outlandish. Good god, can he get one full offseason at least

You new to New York? You know that's not how we roll
Plus, Drury was basically brought in with a mandate to win now. He can say that's not the case, but we all know that's BS. Any GM will be scrutinized, especially one in NY. Drury is no different and I feel of his moves to date have been less than optimal and are a product of the man behind the curtain.

If anything I give Drury credit for being proactive. Get a playoff ready team ready before it actually makes the playoffs

One thing is for sure, everyone of these moves has visions of deep playoff runs. Because that’s the type player you need in the playoffs. From Hunt to Goodrow to Reaves, every one of their style of game, is a playoff type game.

We lost so far:

Buch- ok we’ll miss him, but can we not replace him? Umm yes we can
Howden- good riddance
Smith- good guy in the room, replaced by 4-5 good guys in the room
Deangelo- whatevs. Like we even needed him
Diguiseppe- See Howden

I mean cmon! Drury hasn’t even lost a single prospect yet...but omg! We don’t have a 3rder. Kill him!!!

This is called perspective. Good night all.

Btw, Jimmy is sorry. It was a joke gone wrong. It happens. He would never actually wish for someone to get ALS. At the same time, peeps need to lighten up. Just my two cents

Fair enough and thank you for responding...I'd give anything to have a blogger here that does that for the Pens
Can't argue the Buch return...I would have easily given you Tanev or Zucker and a 2nd or more to see what he could do with Geno for the 20 games Geno will play.
I hope he changes your mind and being a NY'er for 55 years, I watch a fair amount of Ranger games(Pens off nights of course), but I will definitely watch more this year just to see Reaves.

Edit - and I have met your "man behind the curtain" a few times...you have my sincere sympathy, at Cablevision we just called him Arthur

I don't care about the 3rd rounder. I'm surprised Drury wasn't satisfied with Goodrow and Tinordi and Blais and maybe even Ritchie. Where are all of these guys going to play? I guess I just feel bad for Dryden Hunt. He had his heart set on a roster spot, that big lug.

I feel bad for Hunt too. I think barring injury, he will start the season in Hartford with Barron because there no longer appears to be any room on the roster in the short term.

Ritchie is in demand, and I think he will get paid close to what Goodrow got, and that is simply too much $$$ for the Rangers to pay.

The real pisser in the Reaves trade is that Drury was hoping Dolan would notice ("Hey Jim, watch me working over here. Look what I can do!') And Dolan wasn't even paying attention, watching the NBA draft

Guarantee that by November everyone is clamoring about how we need more depth bc we only have 2 lines that can score

I didn’t call you an idiot. I just think “inexplicably” is an extreme overreaction. Almost comical you actually wrote it and went with it
- Slimtj100

You're just angry because the biggest word you know is 'Delicatessen'...

Kidding. It's a reasonable trade. What's really inexplicable was firing JD and Gorton. Frankly those guys scared me because they knew what they were doing. Drury, who knows. Dolan. Nope.

Well sorry guys, I am very happy about the Reeves trade. Besides the last few weeks of the season, we watched the playoffs and everyone on here was agreeing we would have gotten demolished by every team in the playoffs.

Yes we had Kreider, Lindgren, and Trouba who were all out with injuries at the end of the year, but we don't want those guys always being in the box.

We have a very different team now, adding Goodrow, Blais, Nemeth, Tinordi, and Reeves, and Gallant who will run a completely different system.

This team has been pushed around and manhandled for 8 years, every since Vignault instituted the Turn The Other Cheek mentality.... well not anymore

Judging by Gallants “the guys will know their roles” comment. Im guessing the game plan is to have 1 spare Top 9 guy and 1 spare 4th line guy.. rotating in as injuries/bad play happens. Which honestly.. I kinda like…

AP - Strome - Kakko
LaF - Mika - Kravtsov
Kreids - Chytil- BG (Gauts top 9 spare)
Blais - Rooney - RR (Hunt 4th line spare)

The real question is… what do we do with our 9 NHL caliber Dmen?

The reality is reeves will only dress for the caps and isles game. It will be fun to watch him toy with Wilson and Martin. I honestly think this team is more balanced then last year. Clearly the plan the last 3 years wasn’t perfect as their record shows

I don’t understand what a season has to do with comparing trades. The Buch trade we got smoked, the Reaves trade we overplayed by a round or 2.
