So you said this is relevant for this year, but what about prior to this year? Is this a trend or just something that only happened this year? - Mtlca66
Well last year the Isles and Lightning were the teams in the East with the same defensive core so that hasn’t changed. The teams from the West were Dallas and Vegas. Vegas had the same D, Dallas didn’t have a single defenseman under 6’ so ya, it stayed the same. |

I will agree on that, and as much of a sh!t show the Sabres have been I actually agree with the stand Adams is taking this time. - Buff36

Rangers fans like me wouldn't have felt sorry for Sabres fans back during Round 2 of the 2007 playoffs, when the Sabres won that series 4 games to 2; with the turning point occurring in Game 5 at Buffalo.
That's when Hank lost his shutout with only 7.7 seconds remaining, on a game tying goal by "someone" named Chris Drury; leading to Buffalo winning the game 2-1 in overtime to take a 3 to 2 series lead, instead of the Rangers taking that lead back to MSG; where the Sabres won the series clincher for "some" head coach by the name of Lindy Ruff.

Wide right - rangerdanger94
Buffalo itself + all Bills fans have suffered enough with that "wide right" event for decades now since that crazy Sunday night Super Bowl loss to the NY Giants.
Save that "wide right", if not per those words, with whatever two pertinent type words to irk Isles & Devils fans when their teams lose the most important of games. I recall you have that experience doing so to Isles fans in the past, "rangerdanger."

Ugh. I remember that game like it was yesterday. I can still see Drury scoring that goal |

I don't know if anyone on here would know the answer to this question...
Regardless of whether you want Eichel or not....
What if he decided, I'm 24 years old, already have made over $30M, This is my life we are talking about... and decided to get the surgery he wants done on his own.
What would happen? Would his contract get voided by the Sabres? What could they do? |

So, again, if you ignore the fact that Fox is under 6’ because he’s a Norris winner and we all agree he’s a different breed and his size doesn’t matter, 7 out of 12 cup winners have someone under 6’.

There is obviously no disputing those numbers but I wonder if this is a bit of flawed logic. What is the average height of NHLers in general? What was the size of the defenseman on the teams that didn't win or even make the palyoffs?
In 2010 the NYR had no Defensman under 6' but didn't even make the playoffs.
I understand wanting bigger bodies but I think skill is a far bigger part of that equation to a certain extent.
Edit: average height is 6'1" for NHL players. |

Just seemed like a ridiculous stat to me. One player at 5’ 11” vs 6’ means you won’t win the cup? Nah, you could probably come up with a stat line like this for 100 different things.

Man, this makes me real hesitant on Eichel in general. Like this injury and the surgical options are pretty damn serious, who’s to say he’s ever the same player again? - rangerdanger94
For sure. But I can see why he personally prefers the artificial disc. It appears to be an injury that players don't often return from for long. The MMA fighter's result is encouraging but still makes Eichel look like a gamble. I'm gonna call that Eichel gets the surgery he wants and has a nice long career. If he gets the fusion it sounds like he definitely won't be the same player and probably won't have the longevity he wants or hopes for. |

Great signing for sure. Prob $1M a year less than I thought he’d get. |
