Should tell you a lot that were the only team still interested and the other 30 teams want nothing to do with this mess - nyrangers9479
Ok let’s say worst case scenario rangers trade a package of Chytill/Kravstov, Georgiev, Jones and 1st or so for Eichel. I say that since that is what is being reported. He comes here has surgery but it doesn’t work and he can’t play. We take this as a lost season put him on LTIR and have 10 million in his cap space to try to trade during the season or next summer.
Best case he comes for that type of a package is fine after surgery and we have a top 10 talent in the league at age 25 going forward.
Risk is worth it for me |

I heard Buffalos ownership is forbidding a trade with the Rangers, any truth to that? |

They want him traded to the Western Conference instead of taking the best package available. Just more evidence of bad ownership meddling in incompetent management. |

Eichel's preference to have Artificial Disc Replacement surgery as opposed to one involving fusion, has a big unknown in that it has never been performed yet on any NHL player. However, despite fusion surgery being the most common used complex surgery, its disadvantage is it may result in a loss of range of motion, vs. the former with a greater range of motion, as necessary to play the world's fastest sport; despite a foreseen 6 months recovery period. That was the latest news on his injury status then as I posted late last week & forward, as reported on July 21st by "Buffalo News" per a link I had included:
https://buffalonews.com/n...eb-adf7-938de5ef7445.html
Yesterday, Sabres GM Adams initially informed media, "there is no change on the medical side, & to be clear, EICHEL WANTS TO HAVE A SURGERY THAT THE SABRES WON'T APPROVE," contradicting their word 2 weeks ago.
Adams' words prompted Eichel's agents to reply in dispute last night per a link to Twitter among here:
https://www.foreverbluesh...not-working-expect-trade/
Besides expecting Eichel traded by free agency's start, they mentioned of key, "AFTER THE AGREED UPON & PRESCRIBED PERIOD FOR CONSERVATIVE REHABILITATION LAPSED IN EARLY JUNE, IT WAS DETERMINED BY THE SABRES MEDICAL STAFF THAT A SURGICAL PROCEDURE WAS REQUIRED. Eichel's outside neurosurgeon & other spine specialists made him feel comfortable to have Artificial Disc Replacement surgery to correct the herniated disc in his neck; in being under the impression the Sabres specialist was in agreement with, until becoming no longer the case."
The Eichel situation is a big mess which Drury should have avoided all along, of which his predominance to possibly acquire him, instead led him in part to sell Buch low, (with he being an agreed piece held till then for any trade for Eichel), & being unable to complete other moves starting with acquiring a 2nd line center, outside of all moves (minus one F.A. signing in McKegg) made solely to become tougher to play against. - RangerSaver
It's been successfully performed on NFL players, not performed at all on NHL players. Yet. |

And if he’s never the same? Now we have a $10 million anchor and lost 4 assets. Getting this wrong could put us back 5 years |

That can happen at anytime with a player already on the roster. Sure, a lot of people would say the Rangers should have known better because they knew of the pre-existing condition, but weighing the cost/benefit is the GM's job in consult with the medical staff. I'm sure they've consulted with many surgeons about this before even making an offer. |

I just don’t think he’ll ever be the same player. Ok we have 10 million in cap space but we don’t have Krav Jones and a 1st |

Come on jones is just as small as Nils, you don’t want him here anyway lol |

100% I don’t, but at least it doesn’t look like Jones is in the opening night roster. Jones will be traded by the end of the season. |

Acquiring Eichel for top future prospects of key like Nils & Schneider as just part of a deal, would have been similar to 9 years ago, the top prospects Columbus was initially demanding included for Nash, who like Eichel, also wanted to be a Ranger back then. But Rangers fans present one particular game vs. the BJ's at MSG that 2011/12 season didn't even want Nash acquired. I recall it like being yesterday, when the fans that day were chanting while he was on the ice:
"We don't want you ---- We don't need you." (That, unfairly now.)
However, Nash was not injured at all when acquired, and even played Torts game of shot blocking demanded, to the tune of one eventually injuring him for some time length. The Rangers waited for the BJ's price to lower, in being thee team Nash demanded a trade to, as Eichel is likely only still being considered by Drury.
The BJ's lowered their price, leading to the Rangers acquiring an in contrast, perfectly healthy Nash during that offseason in July, along with Steven Delisle & a 3rd Round 2013 Cond. pick; in exchange for Dubinsky, Anisimov, Erixson, and a 2013 1st Rounder, without any top younger prospects being included. |

Listen, you trade Strome for a prospect and 2nd and the package going back to BUF looks like Georgie 2022 1st Jones and whatever prospect we get? Maybe I get on board with that. No way I’m including Miller/Schneider/Krav etc for a hurt Eichel that wants a surgery no ones ever had before. |

Yeah (frank) that. He's either going to be completely fine, a shell of himself if he can still play, or never playing again. All while we commit 10 mil of cap space and trade away multiple assets. Too damn risky, no thanks!

Reaves is a good pick up.... with young quality players the Rangers have invested in they want them protected and the league failed them... I hope Wilson gets the crap knocked out of him on a regular basis..... |

Ya I agree, I just think if it’s for lower level prospects it might be worth it. I’d make Chytil/Krav/Miller/Laf/Kakko etc untouchable |
