This is the definition of cherry picking stats. You started your window in the year that we drafted two nhl players in the 3rd round in 2013 (which you left Tambellini out of, so 3/10 in your window). If you do 2014-2019, you get 1/7.

If you go back to 2005 you can add in:

Dupont
Flatt
Hillier
Grachev
Kundratek
Borque
Fogarty

None of those guys are regular NHLers and they've played a combined 82 games. So going back to 2005, 3/17 3rd rounders are NHL players, or 17% and that's including Jones who has played 10 games.

Ranger fans are the epitome of cherry pickers. Whatever fits their argument. It’s a lot like society now

All I know is teams are going to be terrified of us on the scoreboard and the ice

I could careless about getting Reaves BUT I’m afraid it’s Sather running the team. This has his MO all over it

You think so. You think rookie Drury is being bullied into trades or is this Drury's style and we have to just get used to it.

I like your outlook. I hope you are right. The really good thing being tough to play against is wearing the other team down to allow your top guys fly. Could be a good balance.
Plus, I want to see more sticking up for the team fights. I am old school.

You have your view, I have mine. Didn't say you have to agree with me. If it was for a fifth, that word likely would not have been used.

I agree with you Jan, this is just a dumb trade!! It goes back 10 years ago when we signed Boogard and Brashear. Dumb dumb dumb move. 3rd round pick?? (frank)ing really?? For an 8 minute guy!!

People lost their jobs because James Dolan is reactionary and listened to Glen Sather, the pushing around piece was the convenient excuse. I laid out in another comment where I thought they had already gotten tougher. Also said in the blog, I hope I am proven wrong.

So you can have your view and that's fine. I disagree and I am an idiot? I have a dissenting opinion and don't remember taking you behind the wood shed for yours. I don't share he same view, that's all.

Jan dont try to use reason with these morons, it doesnt work!! Most still think we won the Cup last year!!

I'm very curious what your ideal offseason would have looked like. You hate every move that we've made for as far back as I can remember. What did you want to see them do this offseason that would have made you happy? I'm not prodding this is an honest question.

Clicked to see reaction on the deal. Man you guys are hard on the blogger. I tend to agree that the cost was a bit high for Reeves. But something needed to be done. Wilson may not be shaking in his skates but I doubt he's running anyone on your team either. I think it will at least be interesting to watch these two tee it up a few times this season. Is pre-season too soon?? Lol

its only a 3rd. he wont play every night. Drury must have seen it during his few weeks behind the bench and from exit interviews. now the kids will have more space. i have to figure Gauthier is going to the AHL, and maybe Barron starts there and both get a ton of time. it also looks like another deal could happen.

Gallant knows Reaves, and how to use him. Reaves has also been on teams that have gone on long playoff runs, he knows what it takes. low risk move. and if other players step up and handle it, he can be moved at the deadline

Mannnn, I was so high on Grachev. Really thought he had a shot to be a top 9 player.

NYR's top 6 can be lethal...IF young kids start to play like we hope. Bottom 6 got ALOT tougher to play against. Is it perfect?....NO Is it a better line up than last year?.....YES. Is there more work to be done?.....YES Should everybody chill out?.......YEEEESSSS!!!!

It's an overpayment in terms of assets. I don't think it's a worthwhile expenditure even with more than one third round pick. They got a fourth for Howden, trade that back. Buch only netted Blais and a 2, so Reaves is worth a 3?

The numbers kind of show it's not irrational. He played well for Gallant in 2017-18, that was four years ago. he now is 35, not like he is just 29 without any tread on his tires.

I hope to be proven wrong. If he is a deterrent and that creates space for the skill players, great. But not a price I would have paid and further crowds the bottom six and said who I would have preferred them to try and add.

- airjan23

Jan you know having a brawler in the lineup never stops a cheap shot. It's been proven time and time again. Most 35yos have gone out to pasture, Reaves is 3 yrs past his due!!

Stop copying what I said at a want to early of an hour. Well, the first part. All the other stuff you said I didn't even read. You typed too much.

Well, I guess we need to collaborate because while yours is nice and short, I can't make any sense of that first sentence!!

We heard all season on this board how Howden is not an NHL player and shouldn't have been in the lineup, etc. and now we're upset that he didn't get an equal or better return than what we gave up for Reaves? At least Reaves serves a purpose

I agree and kindly disagree. I believe having a player or players that the other team knows will go toe to toe with you if you cross a line creates a pause in the decision to go stupid. It will NOT prevent all players from being stupid, but when you can put the the behavior in question the next time by beating the piss out of him, it helps.
Problem is the NHL has bred a generation of cheap shot artists instead of allowing for some on-ice policing.

Toughness has been addressed but Drury still needs to figure out what’s happening down the middle. I’m fine with putting a lot of trust and pressure on the kids to produce and figure out their game along side the vets guidance. I think they are a more balanced team now than before.

Good to see the cigar back on top 😂

There is a difference between getting tougher than there is to play tougher against!! We needed new blood on the bottom 6. We got it, looks good, was it worth the cost?? Buch a top 6, 25 yo forward, 50 point guy got us a 2nd, Reaves, a 35yo 8 minute guy a 3rd. Its asset mismanagement at it's best. The Rangers are on the clock here. I think they really need to put a run in the next 3 yrs while Panarin is in his prime, not in yrs 6 and 7 of his contract. The cap will be flat the next 2 yrs at least and that's without another (frank)ing lockdown. Who knows what the future holds.

All I know is that with Reaves in their lineup, Vegas didnt win.

Tell me what team had a brawler on it that won the Cup the last 5 yrs?? 10?? Dont say the Caps cause Wilson isnt a brawler. He is a cheap shot artist who can actually play. He is just a Richard.

Every time a new contract gets signed for these top D-men, I cringe a little at what might happen to us. Flat cap and 9m contracts getting handed out left and right.
