Wilson took out Brandon Carlo with Tinordi and Frederic in the lineup. He fought both of them after the hit, won both fights easily. Wilson's not scared of anybody in the league, Ryan Reaves included.

I want to see less individual rush plays and more of a team concept. Control the neutral zone and choke off pucks. Create odd man rushes with linemates and using short passes to get the puck to the middle of the ice. Good outlet passes and forwards coming deep. With more of a veteran defense, Vigneault has to trust them more and use the middle of the ice instead of constantly putting the puck along the wall. Where advanced scouting has the opposition easily cutting off the boards to create turnovers and extended attack time in the Flyers zone. The coaches never made any adjustments last year.
- MJL

Yeah, they could do a lot better job of coming up the ice together, shorten gaps, etc etc.

Even then tho, gotta have some skill to get it over the blueline with possession. Do the Flyers have enough of that now? Guess we'll find out.

Yes, I think more than likely team-related. His biggest impact on ice might still be the PK; which honestly, that’s reason enough to get him. Speed and a shorthand scoring threat is a big addition to the PK.

His play on the PK is not even close to being reason enough to give up Voracek for him.

If Cam can't rekindle his scoring touch, he's potentially Umberger part II.

Umberger was pretty much done when he got here. I don't think Atkinson is close to that point yet. Yet is the concern. Maybe he'll get to play with a good playmaker again and start scoring at a higher level again.

Who? We had two really good playmakers, one we gave away to get him. Is Atkinson playing with G?

Agreed. Umberger coming here for Hartnell, I don't remember anyone saying "HELL YEAH!!"

We knew who was coming here. It's not the same feeling for Atkinson, at least for me. I look forward to watching him play.

I would be highly critical of a coaching staff who would put Morin in the lineup, just to match up with a knucklehead on the other team. Play your best 6 defenseman. Morin isn't one of them. At best, he is #8.
- MJL

Then you should already be doubtful. This coaching staff has already iced Morin in match ups and played Stewart.

Really speaks to they need Frost to have a good season, they need his skill. Frost gets 35 plus points, Atkinson is close to his old form and Hart is solid you probably have a good Flyer season

Everyone has to play close to the potential of their role.

What’s true to me is the mix is better, on paper, let’s hope that means on the ice also

I like the swap with Atkinson. I think he will provide goals and be good for kids like brink. Even tk. Allison may be able to provide some as well.

With the wing depth we have I would like to see g as the 3 c or have one of the better 4 th lines I. The league with him at 4c. Keep laughts on wing. With g maybe Oscar and Allison.

We are still deep at lw.

That is not what I said….I was saying why to get Atkinson. Saying why you want a player is a different conversation than cost.

Below is a projection of goal scoring for the Flyers lineup this season. Imagine Frost or your favorite young player getting that 12th forward spot and depending on who and usage they might beat the two goals bar.

I know some are too low and a very few might be too high, but it doesn’t appear based on players potentials that scoring would be holding them back.

Total team goals = 302 (estimate is a top 5 team in goals for)

Couturier - 29
JVR - 27
Giroux - 23
TK - 24
Atkinson - 30
Farabee - 26
Hayes - 21
Lindblom - 17
Laughton - 15
Allison - 22
NAK - 8
12th forward - 2
Thompson - 3

Provy - 11
Ellis - 8
Sanheim - 9
Risto - 7
Yandle - 5
Braun - 2
Morin - 1

Depth call-ups (Phantoms prospects) - 12

FYI, only one team has scored over 300 over the past decade. You expecting them to enlarge the nets or something?

Mix change includes last season late adds. So Allison is different, frost would be, Atkinson would, that’s a whole line Add in lindblom being stronger, new 4c and you have a different mix

I'm guessing 239-goals, and I even feel like that's probably a dozen or so too many:

Giroux (16) Couturier (27) Konecny (24)
Farabee (24) Hayes (16) Atkinson (18)
JVR (21) Frost (9) Allison (14)
Lindbolm (12) Laughton (9) Aube-Kubel (7)
Thompson (1) Other (4)

Provorov (8) Ellis (12)
Sanheim (5) Ristolainen (5)
Yandle (6) Braun (0)
Morin (0) Other (1)

When he runs Provy through the end boards it won’t look so stupid…he plays a heavy, heavy game….6-7 minutes a night. No one will run their star players or they’ll answer. Wilson would not of ragdolled their best player had he been in the lineup.

If the Rangers or any other team changes their lineup just to play a player against Tom Wilson then the Caps have already won that situation.
- MJL

👍 my god, this dude won’t play any important minutes. Can’t believe the boogeyman is going to change the division.
