Why should the team doctor decide what happens to Eichel?
If he wants a specific procedure to improve his health that should be his decision.
Not an Eichel fan, but can't believe any fans are siding with the team on this one. It's his health and future. - Nasty_Duck
The collective bargaining agreement says the team and player's doctors agree on medical treatment.
This has always been a ploy by his agents to get him moved. The fact that they haven't filed for arbitration proves it.
The Sabres are a few years from playoff caliber, they are in no hurry to move him for less that they feel is fair compensation.

Because Jack is a hockey player, and hockey players are not necessarily known for their medical expertise.
The neurosurgeon is the expert, paid by the team for their decades of training and experience.
In signing a multimillion dollar contract to provide a service, he is bound to abide be the fine details of the contracts, which include the necessity for the team to be intimately involved in these decisions.
That’s the logic. Opinions and feels are on the side of the lawyers in this case…and apparently you too? - halo63
And if he gets an independent expert opinion not paid by the team that says the procedure is viable?
You think Eichel does not want to be healthy?

Stripes, how the hell do we know what market value is for Eichel?
We can all post constantly that Eichel is worth a Zegras, or Byfield, or Rossi, etc., but if no team will give that up, isn't that an indication that his market value isn't what many think it is?
Further, why is there an assumption that if Eichel is healthy and plays well, that it means his market value goes up?
Isn't there a damn good chance that his market value is what it is due to the very public divorce that's going on where every single person involved in the NHL knows the Sabres are going to trade him?
The better time to get the best value for Eichel was the offseason before the 20-21 season. The Sabres missed their window. - kingcong39
I mean it is pretty obvious that other GMs are trying to get Eichel while his trade value is at his lowest. Who wouldn't want a ppg center who is 24 years old signed for 5 more years?
His value is at it's lowest because he is hurt (and in my opinion using it as leverage to get out of Buffalo). I can't blame him for wanting out. Hell I would want out as well.
But Adams cannot sell his best asset at it's lowest value. It's like selling Apple or Amazon stock right before it went public.

I never said they should move him for less than fair compensation.

This very much has less to do with Jack and more to do with the Agents posturing. Adams power played them with his statement, and they had egg on their faces and had to say something. Its not like that statement had any new information, and they put it out late Friday (because that is when you announce things you want the least number of people to see). Nothings change except for fan's "fear" and "urgency".
I believe that Adams point was a statement to put the issue to bed through the media, and his Agents wanted to keep the pressure on. Stupid for his agents to erode Jacks value if they truly want a deal done. Perfect for a team that wants to draft as high as possible in 22... |

the only reason the eichel camp has not filed for medical arbitration is because they most likely would not win the arbitration |

I believe the bold is a massively incorrect assumption.
His value is low because everyone with a pulse knows he wants out and the Sabres want him out. |

and found doctors that agree with his camp? - Michael Pachla
I've always looked at it like this, especially since my wife was in a similar situation.
We also went for second and third opinions.
Dr Cappuccino did my wife's surgery.
Surgeons want to cut open a person first and ask questions later. It's in their DNA. The good ones are the ones that make surgery the last option. The great ones are the ones who look for better methods. The best ones are the ones that help breakthrough new technology.
Dr Cappuccino helped develop the artificial disc replacements. He has performed more disc replacement surgeries than any doctor in the United States. He is the best of the best. If he said no to this, then I would question any other doctor that is gun hoe to do this surgery. |

One minor point to the bold is the Sabres want Eichel out just as much as Eichel himself wants out, and they do not want him around the team. |

Just because both parties want him out doesn't mean they will settle for less than what they want.
I want to sell my $300,000 doesn't mean I would take $150,000 for it no matter how badly I want to sell it.

Why should the team doctor decide what happens to Eichel?
- Nasty_Duck
The artificial disc likely wasn’t designed to handle the compressive forces Eichel would put it thru. Even if it does, it will wear out faster. They’re saying around 10yrs for an average joe.
Another thing to consider is how the disc fails on an athlete, if it gets crushed like a coke can then that could lead to paralysis. Even if the Dr and the sabres agree, insurance won’t touch it with a 1000ft pole. |
